Once used as part of the Padres Quarters, this building was restored in the l890's. The buildings were built with tiles and timber and they deteriorated rapidly. The restored areas of the mission comprise only a fraction of the original sections.

It is thought the padres paced off the measurements instead of using surveyor's instruments because of the irregular form of the quadrangle and its offshoots.
