Book 2 Chapter 6

                                                                                                 (Book 2 /  Chapter 6)

12:30

"HEATHCLIFF" THE ROOSTER

Well, here I go again.  Like yesterday, this day is going so fast.  I went pee over there in the northeast corner of our two acres.  As I've mentioned before, that's on the other side of Jack the  biggest Shed; near to Theodora's favorite Creosote bush.  Oh!  Heathcliff just crowed.

I just pulled back out all of my materials and now want to get back to work.  I feel so good right now even though, so far; just like yesterday it looks like Daisy and I aren't going to get any  snacks today.  Oh well, I'll just focus on my work; as I still have half of my book to go today.

Judging by how the shadows are now leaning away from me over here on Elvira, I can tell it's after mid-day or noon.  After this sixth chapter I'll be halfway done for the day.  The Sun is    now way higher above the house, and is slowly moving towards the front yard; or to the west.

           "MOTOCROSS" RIDER

One of those kids who ride Motorcycles out there in the eastern desert just zoomed bye on Primavera Road.  I guess he, or maybe she; got out early today or is home schooled so can now    practice.   Boy!  How could anyone have been so smart as to be able to invent a Motorcycle?"

Looking at the desert beyond the Sheds I now see the dust rising from where that kid went bye.  The sound of the Motorcycle is fading but I can tell it's doing what Daisy called "switching gears" and we've both wondered at times what exactly a "Gear" might be.  I smell some Sage.

In this chapter, according to my book two outline; it looks like one thing I'll write about is "Organized" crime in America.  And, I still have much more to write about World War II.  I just looked up in time to see Speedy Gonzalez duck quickly underneath Jack the biggest Shed.

CHARLES "LUCKY" LUCIANO (1897-1962)

Dais watched a tv show about Joseph Valacci, who used the term "La Cosa Nostra."  My Italian Dictionary says it means "Our Thing." Now I'll write about Charles "Lucky" Luciano      who, in the 1930's; was one of the family "Boss's" in the New York City "Underworld Mob."

Some say Lucky Luciano was the "father of modern organized crime."   Before him, the big leader was called in Italian "Capo di tutti capo;" or "Boss of all Bosses."  I guess that's like    Spanish "El ultimo Jefe," or the "The ultimate Leader."  Speedy Gonzalez's scent floated in.

In the late 19th century some Italians brought the Mafia to America, but not as a single group.  After much fighting in the early 1930's Lucky Luciano "helped organize" the five N.Y.C. "Crime Families" into a "cooperating enterprise operated like a business."  I smell Mesquite.

FIVE "BOROUGHS" OF NEW YORK CITY

A map shows the five New York City "Boroughs," which Mr. Eddie in Lake L.A. says are like towns.  In the early 1930's Lucky Luciano helped create the "Commission," or "governing    council;" intended to "settle disputes" between families.  There would be "no single boss."

I've mentioned before how Mr. Eddie, who sells things for our boss; grew up in "Staten Island;" so has an accent from there in the same way Mr. Rich has a New Jersey accent.  Daisy    and I really like it when he comes over here to visit us.  He has that "Taxi" service business.

You can tell Mr. Eddie, who's mainly Irish I guess; knows a lot about the history of New York City.  I remember that one beautiful morning last Summer when, as our boss watered the    trees; they talked about the Mafia.  A Train just whistled faintly way out there to the north.

FLOCK OF BIRDS

Oh!  All of a sudden, in seeing a group of Birds moving toward the northeast; I'm having one of those "Deja Vu" feelings.  It's reminding me of the time Daisy and I were back here sitting on Elvira when a flock of Birds was going bye.  And we were smelling Creosote like now too.

I just thought about how World War II started in September of 1939, when Germany and Soviet Russia conquered Poland.  At that time that guy Lucky Luciano was "languishing in jail" it says here.  My Encyclopedia says in one Sicilian dialect "Mafia" means "Bold Ones."

That one tv show said Lucky Luciano's family came to the U.S. from Sicily to "escape the poverty," only to "find poverty" here too; and in the 1920's he'd joined the "Five Points Gang."  I'll learn about the 1850's gangs of pre-Civil War New York City later.   I smell Arborvitae.

                                     "PEARL HARBOR" (HAWAII / DECEMBER 7, 1941)

I'm looking at that picture of when "Imperial" Japan surprise attacked the U.S. over there in Hawaii.   I've mentioned a few times already in these first two books how that was in late 1941, and brought us into World War II.  The four Pigeons are flying over Libby's Corral.

That man Admiral Yamamoto, who "devised" the surprise attack on "Pearl Harbor;" was hoping to sink the U.S. Aircraft Carriers.  But luckily they were not in Hawaii at the time.      Miss Sandy's dad, on the U.S.S. "Lexington;" was near "Midway" Island on December 7.

Bravo Company was near Moe, but now Laverne and Shirley are leading all their new babies around the northeast corner of the house, to my left; at the far end of the Patio.  They'll go see if any food is left below Mr. Steve's window.  I see my collection of things to chew on.

S.S. "NORMANDIE"  (FEBRUARY 9, 1942)

The U.S. came into the Second World War and soon afterward a French Ship was sunk, some "suspected sabotaged;" in N.Y.C.'s Harbor on the Hudson River.   This picture shows the    "S.S. Normandie" on its side.   Daisy told me about BLACK SABBATH'S song "Sabotage."

At the time of the Normandie sinking Lucky Luciano was in prison, but the Mafia still "controlled the docks" in N.Y.C.  So, in 1942 the Federal Government "made a deal" with him    to help them win the war.  A Car of Truck just drove bye out there on Primavera Road.

Daisy says the man on the tv show said the government knew Lucky Luciano, even from jail; "had great influence" on the "Waterfront Dock" Workers.  "If ordered," they'd "keep an    eye" on things; to prevent German or Italian spies from blowing up Ships.  I smell Sage.

            Mr. STEVE'S PARENTS

Mr. Steve's dad saw the tv show on Lucky Luciano Dais and Millie did.  I guess in 1942, after "cutting a deal" with the government; Lucky Luciano was "moved" into a "nicer facility."  Daisy joked how maybe a new nickname for me could even be Maggie "Lucky" Córdova.

"In return" for being in a better jail, Lucky Luciano "ordered" all the Dock Workers to "cooperate" with the Federal Government.  And they did it Dais says, because if they didn't they would be killed or "Hit."  The Twin Joshua trees scent came floating in from the desert.

The tv show mentioned what it says here, in 1942 the New York City Docks were being "run" by that guy Albert Anastasia.  The tv show said he was mean Daisy told me, his job when  "coming up" to "make people disappear."  He "seemed to enjoy violence" the tv show said.

      ALBERT ANASTASIA (1902-1957)

Dais told me the tv show said Albert Anastasia "ruthlessly and brutally" controlled the New York City Docks.  It says here he later, in the 1950's; led the "Gambino" family.  But in the 1940's he was head of "Murder Incorporated," the "execution arm" of the N.Y.C. Mafia.

Oh wow!  I guess, Albert Anastasi's nickname was "Lord High Executioner;" because of how many people he "eliminated."  Dais says sometimes "Murder Inc." only beat you up and let you live in pain.  Fannie and Freddie, talking to each other; are flying over Libby's Corral.

As leader of the Gambino family, Albert Anastasia was, "one of the most feared figures in all of New York City Mafia history" it says here.  And Mr. Steve's father thinks that's partially    due to living in a "Capitalist" country.  Here at times "greed and avarice are promoted."

                "SPUTNIK"                                         DEATH OF ALBERT ANASTASIA

                               (OCTOBER 4, 1957)                                                                    (N.Y.C. / OCTOBER 25, 1957)

ARTWORK BY ERIK SIMONSEN

Boy!  I'm looking at the 1957 photo of when Albert Anastasia himself was assassinated in that one Barber Shop.  Mr. Steve's brother Rock was only eight days old on that day.  That very first Soviet "Satellite" called "Sputnik" had been orbiting the Earth for about three weeks.

I remember that morning when our boss and Mr. Randy were loading Rex with things to take to the dump.  They talked about Albert Anastasia, and Mr. Randy used the phrase "live by  the sword, die by the sword;" which he says his mom "has used."  Heathcliff just crowed.

That tv show said Albert Anastasia was a "family man."  His job "just happened to be death."  Mr. Steve's father read this girl named Hannah Arendt described German Bureaucrats doing "normal accounting type jobs" during the "Holocaust" as being the "Banality of Evil."                                              CARLO GAAMBINO           LUCKY LUCIANO                 VITO GENOVESE                                        (1902-1976)                             (1920'S)                                   (1897-1969)

The tv show said Lucky Luciano's "childhood friend" was that guy Vito Genovese, later called "Don Vito."  Daisy says, when an "Enforcer" or "Hit Man;" he was "just as mean" as      Albert Anastasia.  In fact, it was he and Carlo Gambino who had Albert Anastasia killed.

Daisy told me in the Mafia to be a "Made Man" or "Full-Fledged" member, you had to prove yourself; usually by being an "Earner" who made money.  But, if given an "Assignment;" you also had to "Whack" whoever the boss said.   Frida and Diego are flying to the east.

Mr. Ralph one time talked with our boss about the Mafia term "Making your Bones," which might at times mean killing someone.  To "Establish your Bona fides" is to "gain respect"  in the Mafia.  My Latin Dictionary says "Bona Fides" would be interpreted "In good Faith."

ADOLPH HITLER                  JOSEPH STALIN                   MAO ZEDONG

   (1889-1945)                               (1878-1953)                             (1893-1976)

I remember that morning when our boss told Mr. Randy his dad thought Vito Genovese was "similar" to Joseph Stalin in Russia who used to say, "Death solves all problems. No body,    no problem."  Hitler and Mao Zedong also believed in that same idea.  Libby just whinnied.

Over the next two days Daisy has me scheduled to learn a lot more about Adolph Hitler, Joseph Stalin and Mao Zedong too.  Mr. Steve's father says "between the three of them they're    "responsible for the deaths of about one hundred and fifty million people."  I smell Sage.

An older man came over to our house and we heard him tell our boss how, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries; our area of the High Desert used to be a place where "dead bodies were disposed of."  He said his father "found" some of them when digging a water well one time.

     HIGH DESERT QUAIL

Ah!  I glanced up and see a Quail standing by itself over there near Andy and Helen's burrow.  Andy sees it but I can tell by his body language he knows it's not a threat to all of the      new Spring babies down below him.  Boy God!  I really like the way You made Quails look.

In mid-1943, after the Allies kicked the Germans out of North Africa and were going to invade Sicily; Vito Genovese was living in Sicily "working with" Benito Mussolini's "Fascist"      government.  That Quail is looking at me.  It didn't realize I'm over here on you Elvira.

Daisy told me the man on the tv show about Lucky Luciano said Vito Genovese was the type of person who, if a "Rat" told him something bad about another person; he "had you both killed."   A lot of leaders in world history have thought the same exact "cold-blooded" way.

"OPERATION MINCEMEAT"

(SPAIN / 1943)

In chapter five I wrote about that World War II "Operation Mincemeat," which helped "trick" the Germans into believing an attack on southern Europe would be in Greece.  I guess,    Lucky Luciano, while in prison; helped the U.S. take Sicily.  I smell the baby Cholla cactus.

My Encyclopedia says Lucky Luciano, using his many "contacts" in Sicily; acted as an "intermediary" or "facilitator" in helping the Allies win.  I remember that morning when Mr.    Mike used the phrase "go between."  Mr. Steve has been called that a few times Dais heard.

The tv show mentioned how, in 1943 that guy Vito Genovese "switched sides;" and also  "assisted" the Allies in taking Sicily.  Daisy says when Sicily fell Mussolini was "kicked out of      power" and the Allies then planned to invade "mainland" Italy.  Dawn's barking over there.

JOSEPH MASSERIA (1886-1931)                SALVADORE MARANZANO (1886-1931)

It says here what the man on the tv show said too, how in 1931 Lucky Luciano first took part in the killing of his own boss Joseph Masseria; then helped assassinate the remaining "Big    Boss" in N.Y.C. Salvadore Maranzano.  A Lizard is doing pushups over there on the wall.

Oh!  Both Big Boss's killed in 1931 were also born in the same year.  Joe Masseria's real first name was Giuseppe, like the name of a man our boss and his dad knew at the Knights of      Columbus.  A scene in the movie "The Godfather" was based on ""Joe the Boss's" death.

With the Big Boss's dead Lucky Luciano "helped" create that "Commission."  From then on it had to "sanction" killing.  Unlike other Mafia members, Lucky Luciano worked with Irish and Jewish gangsters "so long as they made money."  His "Mentor" was Arnold Rothstein.

ARNOLD ROTHSTEIN (1882-1928)                         1919 CHICAGO "WHITE SOX"

Yesterday I wrote about Arnold Rothstein "Fixing" the 1919 World Series.  Our boss's dad thinks he was the real "Father of modern organized crime," Lucky Luciano, Frank Costello "Dutch" Schultz; learning from him.  Mr. Steve has drawn the Chicago "White Sox" logo.

This Encyclopedia calls Arnold Rothstein a "kingpin" and "racketeer."  In 1919, when the "Spanish Flu" pandemic was going on; he paid Chicago "White Sox" players to "throw" or  purposely lose games against the Cincinnati "Reds."  It's called the "Black Sox" scandal.

Lucky Luciano worked with that Jewish guy Meyer Lansky, the "Mob's Bookkeeper" and member of the "Kosher Mafia;" who  in 1959 lost Casinos in Cuba when the Communists    under Fidel Castro came in.  I guess "Consiliere" is "Counselor" in Italian.  I smell Juniper.                                                                       MEYER LANSKY (1902-1983)            "BUGSY" SEGAL (0000-0000)

Daisy and Millie saw that movie the "Godfather," which has a character in it Mr. Steve was told is probably "loosely based on " Meyer Lansky and that other Jewish gangster named  "Bugsy" Siegal.  I smell Bonnie and Clyde's babies up there in their nest.  Dawn's barking.

It says here Meyer Lansky's family came from Poland in the early 20th century to escape "bloody persecution" of Jews.  I guess, As Daisy noticed too; it isn't just Germans who hate the  Jews.  I wrote before how "Pogrom" refers to "organized massacres" in "Czarist" Russia.

As I've mentioned before, two of Mr. Steve's three girlfriends, Miss Emily and Harriet; are the "Descendants" of Eastern European "Ashkenazi" Jewish families. They probably came into America through New York City's "Ellis Island."  I smell little Blinky standing over there.

      RUSSIAN "POGROM"

Hey God!  As You know, tomorrow in book three Daisy has me scheduled to write about the "Holocaust."  But, I'll also write about other times in history when Jews have been blamed    for things; often beaten up or even killed.  Why do so many people seem to "love to hate?"

Mr. Steve says it "seems like it's just in people's "D.N.A." to blame others, and to "enjoy  violence."  In his College "Research Project" on the "Black Death" plague of 1347-1351 many    Europeans killed Jews.  Samson and Delilah just landed up on top of Moe the middle Shed.

I just thought about how some Historians think that 14th century Black Death "Bubonic" plague may have killed half the population of Europe in about four years.  And one of the things that happened, in almost every country was; Jews were burned and killed.  Libby whinnied.

NEW YORK CITY

It says here at the beginning of the 1930's "Great Depression" Lucky Luciano helped create that Commission, or "Syndicate;" to "organize" those five Italian Mafia Families in New  York City.  A new "Board of Directors" would govern them.  There were five "Territories."

My Italian Dictionary says "Omertà" is the "Code of Silence" Mafia members "must follow."  And Daisy say, if you "Break" a rule of that code they send guys like Vito Genovese to  just kill you.  Samson and Delilah are now grooming themselves up there on top of Moe.

Tomorrow I'll learn about those Japanese "Yakuza" gangsters" who Dais says, have a part of finger cut off if they break a rule in their "Code of Conduct."  Sometimes you even have to cut off your own finger according to Daisy.  Ouch!  That would really be so hard to do!

"MISSISSIPPI RIVER BASIN"

In the mid-1980's, when Mr. Steve, Mr. Mark and Miss Helen sold "Season" tickets for the company that owned the Forum; our boss sold advertising to this man from "Louisiana."  I guess he said the Italian Mafia began in New Orleans and not New York City.   I smell Sage.

A map in this Encyclopedia shows why the city of "New Orleans" has been so important in history.  It's near the mouth of the "Mississippi" River, so "trade goods" can be "moved by      water" to and from all the other areas.  That's why it was important during the Civil War.

That man who bought the advertising told our boss how, in 1891; some Italian men were "Lynched" in New Orleans.  They might've killed this Policeman and the people of New Orleans then started to hate all Italians.  Samson and Delilah are now flying back out into the desert.

"LYNCHING" ("INDIANA" / 1920'S)

I guess, in American history; "Lynch Mobs" have been pretty common.  Daisy saw a tv show that called them "Vigilance Committees" and a picture shows white people "enjoying" the lynching of three black guys.  Some Crow are cawing faintly way out there in the desert.

That man from Louisiana said, back in 1891 the mob broke into a jail; and then killed nineteen Italian prisoners.  He and our boss discussed how that Mormon man Joseph Smith and his brother were killed.  A little brown Sparrow carrying a long twig is now running bye.

My Encyclopedia says, the first time "Italian Mafioso" was used in a Newspaper article; was in 1891.  Daisy and I decided that I'd learn more about lynching in book three, when I write about that one good Football player O.J. Simpson.  Mr. Steve shares a birthday with "O.J."                                                                          JOHNNY ROSELLI (1905-1976)                    SAM GIANCANA (1908-1975)

In my first book yesterday I mentioned Sam Giancana who, in the 1950's; was "Boss" of the "Chicago Mob" or "Outfit."  Over the next two days I'll mention him when I learn about Marilyn Monroe and the Kennedy's.  I smell the baby Cholla cactus out there in the dirt.

Because he was the L.A. "Grand Jury Foreman," in 1985 Mr. Steve's father read a lot of what they call the "Marilyn Monroe Case" material,  He thinks Sam Giancana "may have been  involved" in killing her "somehow.  And a guy named Johnny Roselli might've been too.

Right now I have to write about "Prohibition" when, from 1920 through 1933; the "18th Amendment" made it illegal in the U.S. to, "produce, import, transport or sell" alcohol.  But, the "Volstead Act" didn't say anything about "drinking."   So a "Black Market" was created.

CARRIE NATION (1846-1911)

(IN OLD AGE)

I just looked up a lady named Carrie Nation, whose husband died from "Booze; so was a "Crusader" against alcohol.  In the late 19th century she went into the "Saloons," or any  place like that; then used a "Hatchet" to "Bust things Up."  Mr. Steve has a few good hatchets.

Hey Lord!  Carrie Nation did things in Your name, knowing You also got so mad at those "Money Changers" back in Your day.  I guess, Carrie Nation was a Protestant Christian who      said  alcohol was the "destroyer of men's souls."   Andy's looking at me with a puzzled look.

Carrie Nation believed that alcohol, "fueled family violence" and; "much of the political corruption in saloon-based politics."  Mr. Steve noticed how she seems to have studied ancient      Greek philosophy.  His customer Mr. Bob told him she's buried back there in "Missouri."

    FINLEY

I just glanced up and noticed Finley the boy Finch again sitting in that clump of Joshua trees near Libby's Corral.  But, still no girl Finch for him to be with so far again today; so he'll    just have to keep on trying to find one.  Oh!  Two Crows are fighting out there in the desert.

Daisy told me that one tv show on the Mafia said the "Ku Klux Klan" supported the 18th Amendment.  But organized crime liked it too because then they could make a lot of money by    selling alcohol illegally.  Like Mr. Steve's father always says, "What will the Market Bear?"

This one  Encyclopedia says the "K.K.K." were "formed" after the American Civil War to "fight against the freedoms gained by the ex-Slaves."  They beat up and sometimes killed black people so they wouldn't "exercise" their "newly-gained equal rights."  Finley's chirping.

         "KU KLUX KLAN" (1920'S)

Two pictures of the K.K.K show them wearing spooky white uniforms with hoods.  One photo from the 1920's shows them marching up "Pennsylvania" Avenue  in Washington D.C. so  the caption says by then they'd "acquired great political power."  I smell some Manzanita.

Daisy says in 2008 many of the members of Mr. Steve's family walked on Pennsylvania Ave.  On that tv show about the Mafia it said, because the K.K.K. were for Prohibition; the Mob was against them.  Both sides were "not averse" to using violence "to achieve their goals."

It says here, by the 1920's the K.K.K was "popular in many parts" of the U.S.   I recall that morning when Miss Susan told our boss they had "a lot of members here" in California and also "Indiana where she had some friends.   Boy God!  Thank You for how I feel right now.

WORLD WAR I           HARRY S. TRUMAN             AS PRESIDENT

(1884-1972)

I just thought of that man from the State of "Missouri" Harry Truman, who fought in the First World War; and was later U.S. President.  When young, he had been in the K.K.K.; as was possibly another President, Warren G. Harding.  Boy!  Finley seems so lonely over there.

Miss Susan said members of the U.S. Supreme Court, like Hugo Black; had been in the Ku Klux Klan too.  "Many" white men were members of the "Klan" in the early 20th century    she told our boss.  Rudy, with Andy watching him; is jogging bye slowly in front of the Sheds.

Daisy says Mr. Steve used to have a "Service Manager" customer in the State of "West" Virginia.  She heard them talking about this Democrat "Politician" named Robert Byrd, a U.S.    "Senator" for West Virginia for fifty years; and had been in the K.K.K.  Finley flew away.

                                                            "BROTHERHOOD OF THE BLOOD"

Daisy told me our boss's father has a book about this European Catholic group called the "Brotherhood of the Blood."  They go all the way back to the Middle Ages and, like the Ku Klux Klan; is one of those "Secret Societies."  In my right nostril I can smell Libby over there.

Aha!  This one Encyclopedia has pictures of the "Brotherhood" so now I know where the K.K.K., who at times hated us Catholics; got the idea for their uniforms.  They have the same cut out holes for the eyes to see through, and the exact same tall pointy hats too.  I like Libby.

Either a Car of Truck just went bye out there on Primavera Road, the dust it raised is now floating up into the air; which for some reason that makes me feel good.  I remember that other time I felt this way as I smelled Libby while looking out into the desert.  A Lizard ran bye.

 TOMÁS DE TORQUEMADA(1420-1498)

I just thought of a late 15th century Spanish Priest named Tomás de Torquemada, the "Grand Inquisitor" of the "Spanish Inquisition."  Like Albert Anastasia; he was also called the "Lord  High Executioner."  Boy!  I always notice the unique haircuts of Priests in those days.

The tv show about the Mafia mentioned "Torquemada" Daisy told me.  He seemed kind of mean, and if you were Jewish or Muslim but didn't "Convert" to Catholicism; he just had you tortured or maybe even killed.  I smell Bravo Company out there behind the three Sheds.

Sometimes, Mr. Steve thinks "Illegal" drugs should be made legal; because now there's a lot of crime which "revolves" around them.  Now, I'm going to look up and write about that guy  named Alphonse Capone.  In the 1920's, during "Prohibition;" he got very rich selling alcohol.

        ALPHONSE  CAPONE (1899-1947)

This is kind of interesting.  My Encyclopedia says Al Capone was Italian, but was born in New York City; and became one of the most powerful of "Crime Boss's" in American history in  "Chicago."  Oh!  Samson and Delilah just flew in right now and landed up on top of Moe.

Yup!  It says here what Daisy told me.  Al Capone's nickname was "Scarface," because he had a big scar on his right cheek; "sliced" onto his face in a knife.  During the "Roaring" 1920's really "violent" gangs tried to "control" all of Chicago's "lucrative illegal liquor market."

It says here Al Capone's gang was located on Chicago's "South Side" and had a war with an Irish gang on the "North Side."  Both sides, using those "Thompson" machine guns; killed a lot of each other's members until Al Capone's side finally won the war.  I smell Arborvitae.

OTTO SKORZENY (1908-1975)

I'm not scheduled to write about him now, but I feel like mentioning this German Nazi named Otto Skorzeny; also famous for having this big scar on his face.  I'll be coming back to Al  Capone.  There's are now two slowly extending vapor trails way up there in the mid-day sky.

According to this one Encyclopedia Otto Skorzeny was from Austria like Adolph Hitler and, as a member of the "Waffen S.S." in World War II; did some amazing things I guess.  Also, just like  Hitler in World War I; he earned two of those "Iron Cross" medals.  I smell Sage.

Otto Skorzeny, who was big; is now famous for many things but the most famous is when in 1943 he "rescued" that guy Benito Mussolini.  After Sicily fell to the Allies, the Italians "rose up" and kicked Mussolini out of power; putting him in jail.  Samson and Delilah flew away.

MUSSOLINI RESCUED (JULY, 1943)

Daisy and Millie one time saw a good tv show about Otto Skorzeny.  In 1943, the newer  Italian Government was "holding" Mussolini up high on this mountain; but Otto Skorzeny and his men "swooped in" on Glider Planes and rescued him.  It was so amazing Dais told me.

I mentioned earlier how the Germans used Gliders to take that Belgian fortress of "Eban Emaal" in 1940.  The way the Germans knew exactly where Mussolini was being held is because they'd "cracked" the U.S. "Naval" Code.  Ants are going bye down there on the Patio floor.

The "Waffen S.S.," which Otto Skorzeny was in; was the S.S.'s "combat arm."  That tv show said, "after the war;" Otto Skorveny "assisted" Nazis "escape" Europe.  That program was called "Odessa," or "Die Spinne."  And Die Spinne means "The Spider" in German.

       YASSER ARAFAT (1929-2004)

Dais told me the tv show about Otto Skorzeny said another thing he did after the Second World War was go to Egypt.  As an "Adviser" he "trained" the Egyptian Army on "Commando Tactics" and one person he trained was that "Palestinian" guy Yasser Arafat.  I smell Sage.

Yasser Arafat, whose people were "displaced" or "dispossessed" when Israel became a country in 1948; hated Jews.  Otto Skorzeny showed his "Palestinian Liberation Organization," or "P,L.O." for short; how to use "Terror Tactics."  And they've fought Israel ever since.

I just thought of how, after World Ear II; the U.S. and Soviet Union "competed" in their "recruiting" of the Nazi "brain power."  In "Operation Paper Clip" we got that guy Wernher von Barun to help us to fight Joseph Stalin's Soviet Union in the "Cold" War.  I love Sage!

                                  REINHARD GEHLEN (1902-1979)

I guess one reason Otto Skorzeny went to Egypt after World War II was because of that guy Reinhard Gehlen.  This Encyclopedia calls him an "Intelligence Officer" or "Spy Master,"    who worked for the American "C.I.A." after the war.  Andy's now sniffing the air over there.

Over the next two days I'll write more about Reinhard Gehlen.  My Encyclopedia says, in the 1950's Otto Skorzeny "advised" Argentina's Juan Perón; and for a while was even one of the "Body Guards" for his wife "Eva."  I'll learn more about her tomorrow in book three.

Well, it's back to writing about Al Capone.  I wrote down one of his quotes that Dais says Mr. Steve found kind of amusing.  He said, "You can get a lot more done with a gun and a smile  than you can with just a smile alone."  That kind of sounds like that guy Machiavelli to me.                              "SAINT VALENTINE'S DAY" MASSACRE

(CHICAGO / FEBRUARY 14,1929)

My Encyclopedia says in 1929, about eight months before the "Stock Market Crash;" Al Capone's men killed members of another Chicago gang led by George "Bugs" Moran.  And, it    was done on "Saint Valentine's" Day; so was called a "Massacre."  Libby just whinnied.

Wow!  This black and white picture shows some of the gangsters killed in 1929 during the Saint Valentine's Day Massacre.  Yuk!  A lot of blood is coming out of their heads I notice.  The    caption says, on the day of that killing; Al Capone was down there in the State of Florida.

Yup!  The caption says how Al Capone's men used those Thompson machine guns to kill.  I guess, Mr. Steve's father shot "Tommy" guns during the Korean War; and as a kid Daisy says our boss had a Tommy Gun shaped b.b. gun.  But it broke so he had to just throw it away.

"THOMPSON" MACHINE GUN                                      "HIGH BALL"

Oh wow!  I guess the only "survivor" of the St. Valentine's Day Massacre was a German Shepherd Dog named "High Ball."  He "witnessed" the whole thing, and a good picture shows    him underneath a big Truck.  Fred, Ed and Ted the Sparrows just flew bye going really fast.

Tomorrow I'll write about how O.J. Simpson's wife's Dog "Kato" saw her being killed.  He was named after a guy named Cato

St. Valentine's Day is February 14.  Mr. Steve's Nephew Dalton was born on February 11, Miss Harriet on the 19th; and Mr. Rich's birthday is the 16th of February.  As I've said a few        times, Mr. Steve's father was born on the 23rd; and his Grandma Córdova on the 24th.

      v

"ALCATRAZ" ISLAND (SAN FRANCISCO)

Wow!  This is kind of interesting.  It says here in my Encyclopedia how, when Al Capone finally did "go to prison;" he was only "convicted" of "Tax Evasion."  And, one jail he ended up being "housed" in was out there on "Alcatraz" Island; located in the "San Francisco" Bay.

The prison out on that island in the bay is called a "Penitentiary," or "Maximum Security Facility."  It's nicknamed the "Rock" and Daisy heard it's "Escape-Proof" because of the cold    water, strong currents; and Sharks.  I'll learn about San Francisco over the next two days.

I'm so tempted to write about Sharks right now but I'll just wait and do it later today the way Daisy has me scheduled.  And, I'll write about this guy named "Machine Gun" Kelly later    too.  He was also a prisoner at Alcatraz in the 1930's.  Some Ducks are quacking next door.                                                     ALCATRAZ (1969)                                                  JOHN TRUDELL

I've mentioned a few times that older Shoshone Indian man Mr. Steve met at the Phelan Library.  Daisy's right in saying you can tell our boss enjoyed talking to him about 1969 when a    group of Indians took over the Alcatraz prison.  Mr. Steve was fourteen years old in 1969.

This one Encyclopedia says, three hundred American-Indian "Activists" sailed over and landed on Alcatraz Island in November of 1969.  Then they "occupied" it for over a year, hoping to "draw attention" to how badly Native people have been treated.  A Crow cawed faintly.

One of the "Spokesmen" for the "American Indian Movement" was John Trudell who Mr. Dave in New Mexico knows about.  That Shoshone man said John Trudell went to College in the city of San Bernardino, to the south of Piñon Hills.  I can smell Bonnie and Clyde's babies.

N.A.S.C.A.R.

Yesterday, I wrote a little bit about Auto Racing.  Daisy says our boss's customer in North Carolina told him, in the 1920's during Prohibition; guys like his relatives were hired to "Run"    illegal alcohol.  Daisy told me that means to "transport" it around in some really fast Cars.

Alcohol was made legal again when Franklin Roosevelt became President in 1933.  So some of the "Bootleg" Drivers, like "Junior" Johnson; became the first N.A.S.C.A.R. Racers.  As I've  said before, that's just an abbreviation for, "National Association for Stock Car Racing."

We heard Miss Susan say, in "Stills" at night; people illegally made alcohol around here during Prohibition so were called "Moonshiners."  That's also why the really strong "Whiskey" they made was called "Moonshine."  Oh!  Speedy Gonzalez ran bye in front of the Sheds.

JOE PESTOSINO (1860-1909) ON FAR RIGHT

A picture shows an early 20th century N.Y.C. Police "Detective" named Joe Petrosino. Like Mr. Rick's Italian family I guess, he came into America through "Ellis Island;" and is now  called the "Italian Sherlock Holmes"  Boy!  I really do like the hats they wore in those days!

Daisy saw a tv show that said Joe Petrosino used "pioneering, cutting edge investigative techniques" like "disguises;" to fight the Italian "Black Hand."  Daisy told me, in that movie      "The Godfather;" there's a part about the Black Hand.  Crows are fighting out in the desert.

It says here how the Black Hand were a "precursor" to the Mafia, "using violence and "intimidation" to "extort" money from "poor Italian immigrants."  If there were ever such a      thing I would definitely wear one of those round "Bowler" hats.  Ah!  We should make hats!

WILLIAM MCKINLEY (1843-1901)               THEODORE ROOSEVELT (1858-1919)

This Encyclopedia says that guy Joe Petrosino was a friend of "Teddy" Roosevelt, who became President after William McKinley was "assassinated." Oh!  It's interesting how, before he was killed; Joe Petrosino warned President McKinley of a "plot" to kill him.  I smell Sage.

I've mentioned how, in 1977; Mr. Steve and his brother Rock visited New York City.  Dais says a Parts Manager in New Jersey told our boss about a Park in "Manhattan" named for Joe    Petrosino.  And a brass plate in Palermo Italy, where he was killed; is dedicated to him too.

Looking at the Mulberry tree makes me think of that "Willow" tree down there in New Zealand.  Daisy says it's so amazing how it somehow grew up right in the middle of a big Lake.   That "Wanaka" tree, out in "Lake Wanaka;" is located on New Zealand's "South Island."

LAKE "WANAKA"

(NEW ZEALAND / "WANAKA" TREE)

Dais heard Mr. Ralph joke, that Wanaka tree is like the "Aztec" city of "Tenochtitlan;" which also "seemed to have grown out of a Lake too.  Mark Ritter knew about that Wanaka tree and things that have adapted to New Zealand.  Heathcliff just crowed over there next door.

A picture of the Wanaka tree shows snow on mountains in the background.  Oh!  They're called the "Southern Alps," given that name by Caption Cook in 1770; or the year after Father    Serra established that first "Alta " California Mission down in San Diego.  I smell Creosote.

Well, back to writing about Intelligence during World War II; and I still need to write a little bit more about that tv show Get Smart too.  I'll come back to the Mafia and things like that later.  I smell the strong scent of the clump of Joshua trees over there near Libby's Corral.

                                        IAN FLEMMING                                                 MR. PHILLIP

I just thought of that guy Ian Flemming, who wrote all of those "James Bond" books.  Mr. Phillip knows about him, and in my third book tomorrow Daisy has me scheduled to write about a few of the "007" movies; some of which she and Millie saw.  Benjamin just ran bye.

This Encyclopedia says in 1943 Ian Flemming, based on how well he did in tricking the Germans through "Operation Mincemeat;" was sent to America to help this man named Bill      Donovan, head of the "Offices of Strategic Services" or "O.S.S" for short.  I smell Sage.

Mr. Phillip has read about the O.S.S, which was the "precursor" of the C.I.A.  I'm kind of tempted to write about William Donovan now.  He was awarded the four highest American    medals, including a "Medal of Honor."  I wrote yesterday how "Bill" is short for "William."

WILLIAM "WILD BILL" DONOVAN                     "WILD" BILL HICKOCK

(1883-1959)                                                            (1837-1876)

Even though I'll mainly learn about Bill Donovan tomorrow I will say now he's called the "Father of American Intelligence."  His nickname was "Wild Bill."  Yesterday in my first book    I mentioned that one other guy "Wild" Bill Hickock, who was killed while playing poker.

This Encyclopedia says after World War II the O.S.S., which was like England's "MI-6;"  became the "C.I.A." or "Central Intelligence Agency." The C.I.A. and "F.B.I.," or the "Federal  Bureau of Investigation;" now do America's Intelligence.  Dawn's barking over there.

Someday I do want to see that funny tv show "Get Smart," which is mainly about "Secret Agents" Maxwell Smart and his girl partner 99.  Daisy told me how 99 is way smarter, so has to    "Cover Up" for Max; because she wants to be his girlfriend.   Blinky has such a nice scent.                                          "MAX" AND "99"

Daisy says Mr. Steve named our Hummingbirds right after seeing a rerun of the tv show.  She told me how on Get Smart they call their boss "Chief," and I've noticed how she's starting to call our boss that name too.  That does seem like it would be a good name for him alright.

Maxwell Smart is Agent "86," he and 99 work for "CONTROL;" and fight an evil group called "KAOS."  Both are "Spy Organizations," and Daisy says KAOS always tries to destroy    the world and do other bad things like that.  I smell the baby Cholla cactus over there.

I guess, one time 99 asks Max "if we kill won't that make us as bad as KAOS?"  He says, "Don't be ridiculous 99!  KAOS kill, maim and murder for the forces of darkness and evil; we      kill, maim and murder in the name of niceness and friendliness." Heathcliff just crowed.

"KAOS("SCHTARKER" / "SIEGFRIED")

Dais says two of Max and 99's evil KAOS opponents are Germans, "Siegfried" and his henchman "Schtarker." They do bad things, but Max and 99 always win; which gets them very angry I guess.  Siegfried was also in charge of "Public Relations" for KAOS Daisy told me.

From what Dais told me, the Actor who plays Siegfried was later on this other tv show called "Love Boat;" which Mr. Steve's girlfriend Sandy liked.  In Get Smart Max has this Dog    named "Fang."  They both were in the same "Graduating Class" from their "Spy School."

Max gets mad at Fang for chewing on his shoes.  Agent "K-13," Fang's "Alias" or "Cover Name" is "Morris."  He has a Rubber Duck but, isn't  good at following directions so was "Re-Assigned" to a "Desk Job."  I see my collection of things over there at the end of the Patio.

MAX / 99

Daisy told me Max and 99, like James Bond; use "Gadgets" to help them fight KAOS and even have phones disguised as shoes!  Boy! It never ceases to amaze me at how human beings can create such incredible things like that.  Ah!  I just noticed Andy over there looking at me.

Mr. Mike has that loud "Chain Saw" machine.  The first time he came over here and used it I got really, really scared but Dais convinced me not to be afraid.  Mr. Steve, just like Mr. Mike too; has a lot of good tools, ropes, chains and things like that up there inside the garage.

According to Daisy, there are other Secret Agents in CONTROL; who help Max and 99 to defeat KAOS.  One is "Agent 44," who hides in "unusual" places that no one would even think    of finding him; like washing machines, trash cans or fire hydrants.  I smell a Joshua tree.

"AGENT 44" / MAX                                                                   VICTOR FRENCH                                                                                                                                                                                                        PHOTO BY STEVE CÓRDOVA

Daisy told me how Millie thought it was so funny the way Agent 44 always shows up in some "ingenious" hiding places.  He complains about having to be there and Dais says you have  sympathy for him because of how cramped he is in places like clocks.  Heathcliff crowed.

In the 1980's Mr. Steve took pictures of Victor French, the Actor who played Agent 44 on Get Smart.  He was also on other tv shows, like "Little House on the Prairie."  Daisy says on this other tv show called "Highway to Heaven" he wore a green Oakland A's Baseball cap.

Oh!  I smell Rosemary.  I hope You're thinking of me Blessed Mother, and do wish You'd come down and visit Piñon Hills the way did in the 16th century Mexico; or in 1917 when those three lucky Portuguese kids in "Fátima talked to You.  Heathcliff's Hens sound so happy.

MOTHER MARY                    MISS BABETTE / HUSBAND DAVID

Blessed Virgin!  Miss Babette prays to You.  Many will probably think I'm too weird for writing our story but, then I think of what that guy Socrates said about the "un-examined life" not being "worth living."  Daisy says self-examining can be painful, or even embarrassing.

Oh! Cher's over there.  Dais says a Cats "Body Language" tells  you a lot so, if they're acting weird; "take notice."  She thinks Cats can somehow feel when storms are coming through their whiskers.  I can tell Cher's hungry, but Andy is frozen over there in glaring at her.

Daisy jokes her "old bones" tell her when cold weather is coming.  Miss Susan read that Elephants know when a storm is coming by how the ground feels on the bottom of their big, huge flat feet.  Cher went over and is now using Theodora's favorite Creosote bush to hide under.

"AFRICAN" ELEPHANTS

Miss Susan also read Elephants can "hear" storms from far away with their giant floppy ears.  A picture in this Encyclopedia shows a big male Elephant protecting his family.  Boy!  His huge pointed "Tusks" look kind of scary, and would really hurt if he stabbed you with them.

I've mentioned how Cher is not very friendly and at times, like right now instance; gives us mean looks.  Because she mainly hunts at night when it's dark, she rests a lot more during the daytime.  Right now Cher is really low to the ground, on all fours; with her eyes closed.

Cher loves to eat Rats but they usually don't come out during the day.  Mr. Randy called them "Rodents" we noticed, and I don't like their sharp teeth and scary voices.  Daisy says, to kill a Rat you "time" when to jump in and bite it hard behind the neck; to break the spine.

                                                                SONNY AND CHER

Daisy says our boss thinks that Singer Cher is so pretty with her long black hair.  In the 1960's she and her husband "Sonny" sang that song "You Got Me Babe," which was used in that funny movie "Groundhog Day."  Mr. Steve's Niece Cristina has long pretty black hair too.

Rats are so strong and "flexible" Dais told me, and one time when she was still living with her old owner; a Rat bit her friend right on the nose.  They killed the Rat but there was blood all over the place I guess.  That Dog had a big scar on his face for the rest of his life Daisy says.

It's good to kill Rats Dais thinks, as they're sneaky in stealing food.  Being kind of dirty, they bring in "Germs."  Mr. Steve once met this man who's three sons were "Rat Catchers" in the crowded city of "Mumbai" in India.  They use sharp spears to "Dispose" of all the Rats.

                                            HIGH DESERT RAT

Daisy says to "dispose" of Rats is just a nice way of saying you killed them.  Our boss has killed Rats with the "Halberd" spear he has, then using that miraculous "Vacuum" machine to    clean up wherever that Rat was hanging around or staying.  Rats go to the bathroom a lot.

I guess, a "Fringe Benefit" of being a Rat Catcher in India is; you can keep all the Rats so your wife can cook them for food and use their fur to make things to sell too.  Oh!  Cher's now     gone I notice.  But I can tell Andy is still really alert just by the way he's sniffing the air.

Mr. Steve's customer in Louisiana "Clarence" told him one time his wife and sister secretly made a pot of "Gumbo" using Rat meat.  And, because it tasted so good everyone laughed when  told the truth about what they ate.  Andy's now looking at me sitting over here on the Patio.

     ANDREW JACKSON (1767-1845)

That man Mr. Clarence, who's originally from the State of "Tennessee;" knew a lot about Andrew Jackson.  Because of how well he did in the "War of 1812" Andrew Jackson was a "War Hero" so, in the 1830's; was elected U.S. President.  Smelling Rosie now makes me feel good.

My Encyclopedia says, as a teenager during the Revolutionary War; Andrew Jackson and his brother were captured by the British.  One time an English Officer ordered him to clean his boots.  When Andrew Jackson said no that guy "slashed his forehead" with a sharp saber.

A tv show said Andrew Jackson tried to block the sword, so it cut his hand; as well as his forehead.  For the rest of his life he had scars, like Al Capone and Otto Skorzeny; to remind him how much he hated anything British and wanted to get revenge.  Two of the Pigeons flew bye.

"BATTLE OF NEW ORLEANS" ( JANUARY 8, 1815)

PAINTING BY HERBERT MORTON STOOPS

Mr. Clarence knew how, in the War of 1812; Andrew Jackson beat that British army to the southeast of New Orleans.  It says here he had "few soldiers," so "recruited" civilians like "free" blacks, "Choctaw" Indians; and some "Pirates" too.  The midday air is so clear.

Daisy and Millie learned some "Military Terms" from watching that tv show on Andrew Jackson.  One was "Engagement" which just means a battle she thinks.  "Enfilade" means to shoot at the enemy from the side, "Defilade" is when the Soldiers hide behind something.

Oh!  My Encyclopedia says Andrew Jackson was born on March 15th which, as I've said before; is called the "Ides of March" and is when Julius Caesar was killed.  I've mentioned how Mr. Steve's sister Susan's birthday is on the 16th, Mr. Ralph the 17th of March.  I smell Sage.

WAR OF 1812 ("BATTLE OF NEW ORLEANS")

Daisy told me the man on the tv show said, for the rest of his life; Andrew Jackson would "unconsciously" rub the two scars on his hand and forehead.  It reminded him of how much he    wanted to "Get Even" with the British.  Mr. Steve also used to rub more some of his scars.

In 1815 the British tried, but failed; to take those "Earthworks" Andrew Jackson's men were behind.  A map shows how they were also behind a Canal, the "Mississippi River being to    their right.  There's a long line of Ants on the Patio floor near Miss Emily's old coffee table.

This is interesting.  My Encyclopedia says a "Peace Treaty" was "signed" in December of 1814, but "word did not reach Louisiana" until after the Battle of New Orleans.  That ended the War of 1812 in which the "White House" back in Washington D.C. was even burned down.

                                                                  DOUG KERSHAW

Daisy says our boss likes to hear people play that violin called a "Fiddle."  She one time saw on tv a guy named Doug Kershaw who was so amazing in how fast he played the fiddle while dancing up there on stage.  One of his "catchy" songs is called "Diggy Liggy Lo" she told me.

Mr. Clarence said Doug Kershaw is a "Louisiana Cajun" so has "French influences."  He didn't speak English until he was eight Dais heard.  Tomorrow, when I write about Mr. Steve's    mom's trip up to "Montreal; I'll learn about that Canadian "Province" called "Quebec."

This funny song our boss and Mr. Clarence like is about the Battle of New Orleans.  Daisy says it has some "clever" lyrics I "would probably like."  Goliath the Gopher Snake, with Andy  watching him closely; is crawling through the right vertical gate slot to go out into the desert.

             SPARKS                                               MICKY / MINNIE MOUSE

Aha!  I see the Mouse I've been smelling standing over there on one of the big boulders around the bottom of the Mulberry tree.  This morning I wrote about that band called SPARKS.  Daisy told me they have a really good song about that cartoon Mouse called "Micky Mouse."

Oh wow!  Cher jumped up on top of Moe the middle Shed, a dead Lizard hanging out of her mouth.  As I've said, up there she can "Eat in Peace;" but has to be alert for any Crows or      Ravens.  That one little Mouse just ran for its life in suddenly realizing Cher was nearby.

Seeing Cher makes me think of that one tv show Daisy saw about those "Big Cats" called "Leopards."  It showed how the ones in Africa are so strong they can even pull a "Kill" up into trees.  I remember that warm afternoon when Mr. Mike joked "maybe Cher is part Leopard."

AFRICAN LEOPARD

Boy!  Leopards must be strong alright because this picture shows one that pulled a big Deer up into a tree.  Mr. Steve told his sister Susan that strength and ability to learn to protect food might be an example of Charles Darwin's idea of "Natural Selection."  Dawn's barking.

Leopards pulling up food into trees so no one can steal it "helps them survive," so if they teach their babies that "Skill" then they'll have a better chance to survive too.  Darwin said that "Traits" are "Passed Down."   They allow you to "adapt to the food source" in your area.

I wonder if Cher's parents taught her things?  Daisy's lucky to have known her parents and brothers and sisters.  She says that Dog "Snoopy," in those "Peanuts" cartoons; had eight brothers and sisters in total.   Boy!  I guess I just have to accept that I'm an "Only Child."

COMMON FLY

Cher's over there on top of Moe and, having eaten the Lizard; is now starting to groom herself by licking her paw and then wiping the top of her head with it.  Daisy and I have noticed how Flies do that too.  Boy God!  I sure hope there aren't too many Flies around this year.

Dais says all Cats are really clean even though Mr. Steve was told a Cat's mouth has a lot of those "Germs."  Daisy licks her paws to help her arthritis.  Ah!  Cher is over with her mouth wide open, taking or breathing in the air and possibly picking up the scent of more food.

When Cher has her mouth open like that she grimaces, and makes a funny face.  It could be she's trying to pick up the taste of another Cat in her territory Daisy thinks.  Heathcliff just crowed over there to my right, and the clucking of her Hens is making me feel pretty good.

"LIGER"

Oh my God!  Wait until Dais sees the picture of a "Liger" in this Encyclopedia!  She told me she's heard that Tigers can have babies with Lions and she was so right.  A boy Liger in the        picture, named "Hercules; weighs over "nine hundred pounds" according to the caption.

Daisy thinks Cats hear even better than we do, and I know from "Personal Knowledge" how they have unbelievable "Balance."  Even if they fall from a really high place they can turn in the air and always land totally "Upright" on their feet.  I just picked up Cher's scent.

One time Freddie the Crow surprised and scared Cher, who was on top of Jack.  As she fell to the ground she wiggled her body to twist like a rubber band, turned around in mid-air; and landed "Flat-Footed.  Like Dais says, it was almost as if we were see something magic.

MOOKIE WILSON CÓRDOVA                              MISS FOOT CÓRDOVA

I just thought of Mr. Steve's Cats Mookie Wilson and Miss Foot; who lived with him in Sylmar on Hagar Street.  They also did amazing things using balance which are kind of hard to believe.  Daisy one time explained to me how Cats can even feel things with their whiskers.

We heard our boss and Mr. Randy talking about the real Cher, the Singer; who they both think is still pretty even though she's older than they are.  Mr. Steve says it's "normal" for "most people to get uglier with age."  He sees himself as a perfect good example of that.

Cher the Singer still does concerts up there in Las Vegas, which I've mentioned is about a four hour drive from here in Piñon Hills; Highway #15 being fourteen miles to the east of us.   In English "Las Vegas" means "The Meadows."  A flock of Birds is moving toward the east.

LAS VEGAS ("NEVADA")

Miss Susan said Piñon Hills "no longer has as many pine trees," and Las Vegas is "not a meadow any more."  Daisy says it's a city with bright lights, in a hot desert; where it's legal to "Gamble."  Our boss's dad always tells people, "Only gamble what you can afford to lose."

From what Miss Susan told our boss; since the mid-19th century Mormons have been "linked historically" to the "Nevada" area.  Las Vegas was created in 1905 but, since the 1850's; had been a Mormon  "Outpost" on the way coming out here to California.  I smell Sage.

Daisy says Mr. Steve's father thinks it's "ironic" how it was often Mormon's who lent or "Financed" Las Vegas Casinos after World War II, because most Mormons don't gamble.  And neither does our boss and his dad.  As I've said, they "Know the Numbers" so won't gamble.

                                                    HOWARD HUGHES (1905-1976)

All of a sudden I just thought of Howard Hughes, who in 1966 moved to Las Vegas.  Mr. Steve read his "Staff" were called the "Mormon Mafia."  I guess that's kind of a joke because of how honest most Mormons are.  Miss Susan used that term "clean cut" to describe them.

Mr. Steve was told what us Catholics refer to as a "Diocese," Mormons call a "Stake."  In book one I mentioned how a Mormon "House of Worship" is a "Temple" whereas we would call it a "Church."   All four of the Pigeons flew bye and are moving together toward the east.

Las Vegas makes me think about "Gambling" or, as people in the industry would prefer; "Gaming."  Our boss jokes, just as it sounds better to call a used Car "Pre-Owned;" gaming is    better than gambling.  Hey!  That might be an example of George Orwell's "New Speak."

                                                     GEORGE ORWELL (1903-1950)

"Semantics" is when you "Substitute" one word for another when they actually mean the exact same thing.  In George Orwell's Dystopian book "1984" meanings are reversed so "War is Peace."  A Freight Train just whistled faintly way out in the desert, over there to my right.

Mr. Steve's father says, "speculating" in the Stock Market is "just another way of saying gambling."  He told Mr. Ivan, who laughed; the Federal Government "Printing money out of thin Air" sounds better calling it "Quantitative Easing."  I smell Theodora's Creosote bush.

I suddenly smell Cher, which makes me think of the original Cher, that 1960's Singer with her husband "Sonny."  Their last name was "Bono" and were from Los Angeles from what Dais heard one time.  Mr. Randy thinks they dressed like "Hippies" as one of those "Gimmicks."

SONNY AND CHER (LAST PERFORMANCE ON RIGHT)

 PHOTO GETTY IMAGES

Daisy's told me SONNY AND CHER'S song "I Got You Babe" has some unique singing in it.  Mr. Steve read in 1965, it was "Released" on July the 9th; his tenth birthday.   In that good movie "Groundhog Day they play SONNY AN CHER'S  song over and over again Daisy says.

In Groundhog Day every time the man wakes up in the morning he has to live the same day over and over again.   And every morning when he wakes up the song playing on the Radio is I Got You Babe.  I guess Cher is still a Singer but her husband Sonny died while skiing.

A man from Wrightwood told our boss Sonny Bono, a "good skier;" died by hitting a tree. The man said he was "most likely overconfident," so went too fast; but "lost control."  Mr. Steve has told his Nephews who ski and snowboard not to be like Sonny Bono in going way too fast.

SONNY BONO (1935-1998)              PALM SPRINGS              DOWNTOWN

I guess after SONNY AND CHER stopped singing together Sonny was elected "Mayor" of  "Palm Springs" and, at the time of his death; was a "Conservative" House of Representatives Congressman back in Washington D.C.   He was born in 1935 just like our boss's mom.

Mr. Steve says Palm Springs, which he's been to a few times; is in the "Low" Desert to our south.  When his dad came back from the Korean War he was for a time "Stationed" near Palm Springs at this other place called "Twenty Nine Palms."   Dawn's barking over there.

Daisy heard about two big statues of Dinosaurs near Palm Springs, at this place north of the #10 Freeway called "Cabazon."  She told me our boss has taken pictures of them.  Both were made out of cement, "By Hand;" by one single older man whose name was Claude Bell.

                                                         CLAUDE BELL (1897-1988)

Mr. Steve and Mr. Mark one time talked about the "Wheel Inn" Truck Stop which used to be near those two Dinosaur statues at Cabazon.  Daisy says our boss and Miss Emily one time ate some really good Blueberry waffles there.  Um!  That makes me feel kind of hungry.

In the mid-1990's our boss and his father met with some of the people who ran the Indian gambling Casino in Cabazon.  But nothing ever came of it.  Mr. Steve and his dad one time were remembering how good the food was at that Casino, which is run by Cabazon Indians.

When Mr. Steve, Mr. Mark and Miss Helen worked at the Forum a "Fringe Benefit" was that, during Summer; they could stay for free at the "Ocotillo Lodge" in Palm Springs.  That's because Jerry Buss, the Forum's owner; owned that Hotel too.  Dawn's barking over there.

      "OCOTILLO LODGE"                                                   JERRY BUSS

One time our boss and Mr. Mark reminisced about a time, in the mid-1980's; when they spent a few days in Palm Springs at the Ocotillo Lodge.  It was really hot, there were few people staying there; so that's why the Forum employees could got rooms for free.  I smell Blinky.

Daisy heard our boss and Miss Emily drove to Palm Springs that time, and admired the scenery along the way.   I guess the Ocotillo Lodge opened in 1957, the year Mr. Steve's brother Rock was born.   It has some really beautiful views of the nearby "San Jacinto" mountains.

It was hot that time in Palm Springs so our boss and Miss Emily took the "Tram" to the top of a mountain outside the city.  In the 1960's that guy Gene Autry, the "Singing Cowboy" and owner of that "Southwest Museum; owned the Ocotillo Lodge.  Blinky smells so strong!

PALM SPRINGS "AERIAL TRAM"                               MISS KARIN

One time our boss told Miss Karin at work about that trip to Palm Springs, and going up to the top of the mountain on the tram.  He and Miss Emily liked how on the way you go through a "Pine" tree forest like the ones to our southeast.  Miss Karin has been to Wrightwood.

Mr. Steve and Miss Emily were told it's about "six miles to the top" of that Palm Springs mountain.  They hiked around the cool mountain, noticing from up there you could actually see the "Heat Vapors" rising from the city below.   It was like an "Out of Focus" photograph.

Hey Lord!  My Encyclopedia says "San Jacinto" means "Saint Hyacinth," a twelve year old boy the Romans killed for liking You.  Miss Babette read he was one of those Martyrs so is  "venerated" by "Greek Orthodox" and us "Roman Catholics" too.  Heathcliff crowed.

  "BATTLE OF SAN JACINTO"

(APRIL 21, 1836)

PAINTING BY E.M. ("BUCK") SCHINWETZ)

I just thought of that famous 1836 "Battle of San Jacinto," where Sam Houston's Texas Soldiers beat Santa Anna's Mexican army.  I guess, Sam Houston's men were able to somehow    catch the Mexican's by surprise so "Routed" them.  Crows are fighting out in the desert.

Daisy says the man on a tv show about the "Texas Revolution" said The Mexican troops were "slaughtered" and some even drowned in trying to escape.  They were killed in revenge for the earlier "Alamo" and "Goliad" battles.  Some died yelling, "Me no Alamo, me no Goliad."

Miss Karin told our boss she read that guy John Muir, who's associated with "Yosemite" and places like that; said the view from the top of the Palm Springs mountain was one of the best he ever saw.  Daisy and I would love to see the Dinosaur statues in Cabazon.  I smell Sage.

                                                                                                        THE MOVE

The statues at Cabazon are of a "Brontosaurus" and a "Tyranisaurus Rex," or "T-Rex" for short.  That British band the MOVE have a good song about a Brontosaurus Daisy told me.   Our boss and Miss Emily walked around those two huge Dinosaur statues "In Admiration."

I guess it took Claude Bell twenty years to build his Dinosaurs, but he was "In no Hurry" because he was "Retired;" and did it to "keep busy" he said.  Mr. Steve's mom likes the unusual Motels and things on "Route 66" at Cabazon.  In the 1960's the MOVE drove on Route 66.

My Encyclopedia says for years Claude Bell built things at "Knotts Berry Farm."  Daisy says our boss still has Old West "Wanted" posters he bought as a kid at Knotts Berry Farm.  Up there in the high blue sky I can see two crisscrossed vapor trails with a few clouds near them.

MARK BOLAN / T-REX              (1970'S)                  NEW YORK DOLLS

Daisy told me a 1970's British "Glam" Rock band T-REX, who our Truck is named for; had a good song about hitting a "Gong" like the ones drummers use.  I've mentioned how "Rex" is "King" in Latin.  Daisy told me how, in his bedroom; Mr. Steve has a miniature gong.

I'm scheduled to learn about an American Glam band called the NEW YORK DOLLS tomorrow.  Even though he was from New York City, after they broke up their Bassist came out to Los Angeles and became a "Mormon" or "Latter Day Saint."  I feel so good right now.

Yesterday I mentioned how, back in the late 1980's; some of the bands Mr. Steve and Miss Harriet saw were those "Hair" bands.  Those were the bands who got replaced back in the early 1990's when "Grunge" Rock came out.  I wonder what Dais is doing up there right now?

                          HIGHWAY # 138                                            OUR GRAVEYARD

I just thought of our graveyard.  Dais says the #138 Highway near us has "Remembrance Shrines" where people died in Car accidents.  A few are just crosses but, one on the road in front of our house even has a bench to sit on; which his family keeps clean and puts his things on.

Seeing that Dog Blackie get killed by the speeding Truck made me realize the power of a moving vehicle.  Until then I'd suspected it but seeing it myself made me now never want to leave our two acres.  No way!  Ugh! Ugh!   I still remember how Blackie yelled before he died.

Mr. Steve's family clean Grandma Trujillo and his sister Celina's graves, which makes me think how Daisy told me; through "Erosion" nature will "reclaim" almost everything built by people if not "Maintained."  But those three big Pyramids over at "Giza" are still here!

"RUINS" (c. 1880)             SAN FERNANDO MISSON               NOW (1980's)

Mr. Steve thinks the Alta California Mission buildings may've been lost forever if not for some people in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.   They had been mainly abandoned at that point and were slowly "turning into sagging ruins."  But they were rescued just like I was!

I'm still thinking of how Blackie was killed by someone driving way too fast.  Mr. Steve admitted to Mr. Cliff he at one time drove too fast in his two 1968 Chevelle's; especially after his friend Tim had worked on them.  They even used to go to those night "Street" races.

Mr. Steve was thirteen in 1968, the year that tv show Wonder Years "Depicted."  In the late 1960's and 1970's some "Stunt Men" lived in Sylmar.  One of them had a family that was a neighbor of Mr. Steve's parents.  Frida and Diego the Bluebirds just went whizzing bye.

                                                                                                           "BULLITT"

Baseball Coaches at S.I.B.L. were Stunt Men and a neighbor of Mr. Steve's parent's was in the 1968 movie "Bullitt."  Steve McQueen, who was in "The Great Escape;" drove a Car for  famous "Chase Scenes" in Bullitt.  One Coach's last name was "Lerner" like Miss Emily.

Daisy told me in Bullitt a black 1968 Dodge "Charger" races against a dark green 1968 Ford "Mustang GT" through the streets of San Francisco.  Mr. Cliff said  in 1968 Charger's had 375 horse power while Mustangs had 325.  The chase in Bullitt lasted ten minutes I guess.

At times during Bullitt's chase scene they went over one hundred "Miles per Hour" from what Daisy heard Mr. Cliff tell our boss.  Boy!  I like to run fast but don't know if I'd ever want to go that fast inside of a Car.  No way!  Ugh! Ugh!  What if you crashed or even got killed?

                                                            SHIRLEY MULDOWNEY

Mr. Cliff says some Drag Racers, like that girl Shirley Muldowny for instance; go over three hundred miles per hour.  Our boss doesn't think San Francisco would let them film Bullitt now.  Sylmar has "a few steep roads" but "not like" up in San Francisco he told Mr. Cliff.

I guess Mr. Steve's old neighbor used to jokingly tell people he was "in" the chase scene from Bullitt.  But he didn't drive the Charger or Mustang, he was in one of the Cars they passed on the road in the chase because it was safer having Stunt Men in them.  Dawn's barking.

"Whoever edited" the film of Bullitt's chase scene "did a good good job" Mr. Cliff said.  I guess Mr. Cliff likes "Fastback" Cars.  If you look close you see mistakes like passing the same Car twice; or damage on the Cars before they even did that damage.  I smell Cher the Cat.                                                                "CHER" THE CAT                                                   MIDDAY SKY

Cats, like Cher for example; sometimes look at you in that suspicious way.  I'll bet Cher has been wondering why I'm over here on Elvira so much lately; and where Daisy's been.  There are now some puffy or fluffy white clouds hanging way up there in the beautiful midday sky.

For some reason I just thought of how our boss's Niece's Cristina and Samantha went to that  "Lutheran" school even though we're Roman Catholics.  Mr. Steve thinks you can only fully appreciate a "Parochial," or "Private school education;" later.  Heathcliff crowed.

Boy God!  I kind of like writing about our lives around here, and understand better why that guy Socrates said; "The unexamined life is not worth living."  In writing our story, I'm kind of looking at our lives; which Daisy says will make me appreciate things.  And I do alright!

                    SOCRATES (c.470-399 B.C.)                                DAISY CÓRDOVA

Daisy says our boss told his dad on the phone he met a guy whose father was an "I.R.S. Auditor." When his dad met with the people being "Audited" he'd "Break the Ice" by joking, "Wasn't it Socrates who said the unexamined life is not worth living?"  I smell Creosote.

Last evening, when Dais barked at the skinny man pushing his Wheelbarrow; she thought it was the perfect excuse to bark and get our boss's attention because she was really hungry.  And that worked too because he came out and fed us!  Two of the Pigeons are now flying bye.

Yesterday I mentioned that man Ivan Pavlov, who did his "Conditioning" experiments on us Dogs.  My Encyclopedia says he "demonstrated" getting a "desired response" by giving out    "repeated and consistent rewards."  We really like when Mr. Steve does that with us too.

                               IVAN PETROVICH PAVLOV (1849-1936)

As I wrote yesterday, that guy "Pavlov," whose family lived under the Czar and then the Soviets; got us Dogs to do what he wanted by using food as a "reward right behavior."  Wow!  I guess, according to my Encyclopedia; he was the "oldest of eleven" kids.  A Train whistled.

It says here Pavlov, because he couldn't find a job; "lived in poverty" after marrying his wife named "Seraphina."  But, they probably trusted and respected each other so; "Weathered    the Storm" so to speak.  I guess Pavlov and his wife had five kids but two "died young."

Pavlov's wife was a "decent woman" and "good mother," whose husband "trusted" and "respected" her opinions.   Our boss's father read Aldous Huxley's first wife "Maria" died so he  married a helpful lady named "Laura."  Miss Maria is Mr. Steve's parents "Caretaker."

WIFE MARIA         ALDOUS HUXLEY         WIFE LAURA

I guess, Aldous Huxley needed help because he was going blind.  He and his first wife Maria lived in Llano when she died, he and his second wife "Laura" were living in Hollywood      when he died in 1963.  I wrote how he died on the same day President Kennedy was shot.

This Encyclopedia says one idea in Aldous Huxley's book "Brave New World" is that a future society could "environmentally engineer" it's people so they'll more easily accept a "social hierarchy." I guess that means some are better than others.  Dawn's barking over there.

At "Eton" College that other British Writer George Orwell took a "French" class from Aldous Huxley.  Later, in those books "Animal Farm" and "1984;" he wrote about the idea of    "Brainwashing" to control future people.  Hearing Dawn's voice is making me feel good.

"BRAVE NEW WORLD"                       HUXLEY / ORWELL                                      "ANIMAL FARM"

                 (1932)                                                                                                                                                    (1946)

ARTWORK BY LESLIE HOLLAND

"Controlling thought" makes it easier to get you to do whatever someone else wants.  Both Aldous Huxley, and George Orwell too; warned about how a possible future government could use "Mind Control."  I wonder if us Dogs can be mind controlled?   Cleo and Leo flew bye.

Mr. Steve thinks, because they both lived during periods of "Imperialism," "Fascism" and "Communism;" Aldous Huxley and George Orwell were influenced by them.  For all of history a Ruler used violence to make people obey.  But maybe brainwashing makes it much easier?

This one Encyclopedia says Aldous Huxley and George Orwell wrote about  "psychological manipulation through conditioning."  Both "were aware of" that guy Pavlov's experiments on us Dogs.  I've mentioned how George Orwell's real name was "Eric Blair."  I smell Mesquite.

CHEAP TRICK

That band from "Illinois" CHEAP TRICK have a lot of good songs Daisy says, one called "Dream Police" being influenced by George Orwell's book 1984.  Daisy thinks I'd like CHEAP TRICK'S catchy songs.  Fred, Ed and Ted all flew bye, going together toward the northeast.

Daisy thinks CHEAP TRICK'S song Dream Police is about how in that one book 1984 the people had no "Privacy," even when asleep.  And that's because George Orwell's "Big Brother" is always "Watching."  As Daisy sees it, Big Brother is another way of saying the government.

Mr. Steve played CHEAP TRICK songs for that kid Jason, one being Dream Police.  Dais, except for all of the "screaming girls;" likes this CHEAP TRICK "Live" album recorded over in "Budokan" Japan.  Mr. Steve tries to play along to that CHEAP TRICK album sometimes.

  BOWERY BOYS                                                         CHEAP TRICK

Daisy heard our boss talking on the phone with his dad when they discussed these movies from the 1940's and 1950's.  The movies were about the "Bowery Boys," and CHEAP TRICK'S  guitar player looks like one of the characters.  Some of the Ducks are quacking over there.

Mr. Steve's parents laughed when shown a picture of CHEAP TRICK'S Guitarist.  As with the Three Stooges, Mr. Steve's mom joked about "tolerating" the Bowery Boys; "for his sake."    From what Dais heard, the first movie was from 1946, the year after World War II ended.

In the Bowery Boys movies the gang leader acted tough but used the wrong words, like in saying "I depreciate it;" instead of "I appreciate it."  Mr. Steve took pictures of Comedian Norm Crosby who used to say, "Only natural degredients."  Dawn's now barking at something.

                                                     NICCOLÒ MACHIAVELLI (1469-1527)

PAINTING BY SANI DI TITO

I just thought of that 16th century "Handbook for Power" called "The Prince," written by that Italian guy Niccolò Machiavelli; or just "Machiavelli" for short.  He wrote that book to instruct a person how to be an "effective" leader.  I can smell Theodora's Creosote bush.

Mr. Steve has wondered if Machiavelli's little book influenced Pavlov, or Aldous Huxley and George Orwell?  Machiavelli was the one who said a good leader has to know when to be a "Lion or a Fox."  He also talked about a leader using a "Velvet Glove" or an "Iron Fist."

Just like that movie "The Godfather" talked about, is it better for a leader to be "Loved" or "Feared?"  I guess that guy Machiavelli said love is effective with decent people, but for those who have little conscience; terror works better.  They often see kindness as a weakness.

"BIGGIE" SMALLS / TUPAC SHAKUR                                   IRONMAIDEN

Yesterday I wrote a little bit about those two "Rapper" Singers named Tupac Shakur and his "Rival" Notorious B.I.G.   That guy "Tupac" called himself "Makaveli" Daisy heard, and in book three she has me scheduled to learn and write about that group the "Black Panthers."

I guess Aldous Huxley used some of that guy Pavlov's ideas on conditioned responses in his book Brave New World.   Dais says IRON MAIDEN did an album called Brave New World.  Mr. Steve likes how IRON MAIDEN'S bass player at times sounds like a galloping Horse.

Daisy likes IRON MAIDEN'S songs, but not their album covers; because of their mascot named "Eddie" looking like her bad Angel.   Someday, when I ride in Cars; I hope see Mr. Eddie in Phelan playing drums with no arms.  We really like Mr. Eddie who sells things for us.

                                               CREAM                                                                              BLUE CHEER

I wrote yesterday about how, in the mid and late 1960's; Mr. Steve started liking "Power Trio" bands like CREAM and BLUE CHEER.  I guess BLUE CHEER were from the Bay Area and did that "Heavy Metal" sounding version of "Summertime Blues."  I can smell Libby.

Dais says that band from England, the WHO, are kind of a three-piece band; and they did a version of Summertime Blues too.  In the 1970's Mr. Steve listened to three-piece bands like ZZ TOP and RUSH.  But he liked IRON MAIDEN and JUDAS PRIEST'S two Guitarists too.

Last year Mr. Steve was out here doing yard work when we heard those two songs by that Irish band THIN LIZZY, "The Boys are Back in Town" and "Jail Break."  In the mid-1970's, our boss saw THIN LIZZY play before QUEEN  at the Forum.  Libby neighed over there.

                THIN LIZZY                                                                     QUEEN

THIN LIZZY have two Guitarists while QUEEN has only one I guess.  Dais told me even though they're Irish THIN LIZZY'S bass-playing Singer, who was tall and wrote their songs; is half black.  Our boss and Mr. Phillip once talked about how he already died a few years ago.

A tv show about IRON MAIDEN said their Singer is also a Pilot and even personally flies their big Plane when they travel around the world.  Boy!  Daisy's so lucky in getting to watch tv so much more than I do.  I can't wait to someday see some of those good "Documentaries."

Daisy heard our boss talking on the phone with his sister Susan in Connecticut, and they discussed how her son Dalton wants to someday become a Pilot like his dad.  The problem is Mr. Steve says, "pretty soon Planes will be piloted by robots."  I can smell Dawn and Blinky.

                               2014 HONDA "PILOT"                                           MR. PHILLIP

Mentioning Pilots reminds of how Daisy heard our boss and Mr. Phillip, a Parts Manager at a "Honda" dealership back east; talk about a Car called "Pilot."  I've mentioned before how Honda is one of those Japanese companies.  Samson and Delilah are flying over the Sheds.

Dais says Mr. Phillip used the word "crossover" to describe those Pilot Cars, and said it's been "produced" since 2002 here in the U.S. in the State of Alabama.  Daisy and Millie noticed how Pilots are big and have three rows of seats in them.  I smell the Twin Joshua trees.

Our boss told Mr. Phillip, to have a kid practice; he had him do a line drawing of a Honda logo.  He said he once bought, then resold; an old royal blue and yellow Seattle "Pilots" Baseball cap whose "Bill" looks like an Airplane Pilot's hat.  That team doesn't exist any more I guess.

JIMMY PAGE                         LED ZEPPELIN                  JOHN BONHAM

Daisy one time heard our boss talking on the phone with his mom about doing those line drawings.  He told her, knowing she likes the idea of personal logos; how each member of LED ZEPPELIN had their own emblems.  He drew them, and felt good when she admired them.

In College at C.S.U.N. Mr. Steve's mom got more interested in the subject of "Coats of Arms."  She had been interested in that before but, when the chance came up to find out more about it; she "Leapt at the Opportunity" as they say.  Andy's over there sniffing the air.

Daisy says our boss has vinyl records of those early 1970's British bands now called the "Unholy Trinity" of Heavy Metal; DEEP PURPLE, BLACK SABBATH and LED ZEPPELIN.  All were "Formed" in the late 1960's.  DEEP PURPLE was not playing Hard Rock at first.

LED ZEPPELIN                    DEEP PURPLE                   BLACK SABBATH

LED ZEPPELIN, DEEP PURPLE and BLACK SABBATH are all from England.  I guess Mr. Steve has wondered if IRON MAIDEN'S bass player was influenced some DEEP PURPLE songs.  DEEP PURPLE has a good left-handed Drummer who wears glasses Daisy noticed.

Mr. Steve likes playing people DEEP PURPLE'S song "Pictures of Home" just to see their reaction to the guitar, organ and bass solos.  I just thought of a 1980's band from "Wales" called BUDGIE, who Dais says have a song about Napoléon I.  Mr. Phillip is originally from Wales.

BUDGIE is a three-piece band who Mr. Phillip thinks "influenced" later bands but "didn't make much money."  Hey!  That kind of sounds like that other band the NEW YORK DOLLS who I'll learn about tomorrow.  Daisy saw an interesting Rick Steves episode about Wales.

                                BUDGIE                                                                METALLICA

Our boss told Mr. Rich he kind of liked when, early in their career; METALLICA played  BUDGIE songs.  In fact he says, "in some ways" he liked their "heavier" versions better.  He's been told by Mr. Dave VAN HALEN "covered" BUDGIE, but he's never heard those songs.

Mr. Phillip said back there in the U.K. some people call a Helicopter, and those colorful little "Parakeet" Birds; a "Budgies."  Mr. Dave's customer in Texas said that band BUDGIE has "a lot of fans."  To the right of Elvira, near the sliding glass door'; is that big "Bird Cage."

Daisy says Mr. Steve has thought about getting some Birds, remembering how growing up in Sylmar his mom at times "kept" Canaries and Parakeets in their living room.  On my outline, I see how the next thing I'll write about is a "Science Fiction Writer named Isaac Asimov.

                                                           ISAAC ASIMOV (1920-1992)

Hey God!  I guess that guy Isaac Asimov was Jewish but didn't believe in You.  Mr. Steve read his family were Russian "Ashkenazi" Jews, like Miss Emily and Harriet's families; who in the early 1920's came to America.  He wrote a book called "The Mule" according to Daisy.

Dais says that band DEEP PURPLE have a song about a Mule so, she wonders if it was influenced by Isaac Asimov's book?  The DEEP PURPLE song has a really good drum solo in it Mr. Dave thinks.  Wow!  This Encyclopedia says Isaac Asimov "could read" at age three!

Boy!  Isaac Asimov could write at five years old!  I guess he liked The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings by Tolkien.  Being one of those "Atheists," Isaac Asimov did not believe in any type of  "Afterlife."  Daisy and I God, prefer to hope there's more after this so we can then smell You.

                                                                 ISAAC ASIMOV

It says here Isaac Asimov grew up in New York City, and wrote a "trilogy" of books in the 1940's called the "Foundation" series; about a future "Interstellar" society's "collapse and rebirth."  I guess interstellar means, "Between or among the Star's."  Libby just whinnied.

Daisy and Millie saw a tv show about Isaac Asimov which said the Foundation books are about a "Galactic" society "based on ancient Rome."  He did another book called "The Three Laws of Robotics," and "coined" the terms "Robotics" and "Psycho History."  I like Libby.

A vapor trail up in the midday sky reminds me how Isaac Asimov was afraid to fly in an Airplane.  Me too!  If I ever do fly in a Plane I would want to be asleep so I wouldn't have to look down at the ground way down there below.  I don't know how Underdog even does does it.

"SCREAMIN" JAY HAWKINS            ARTHUR BROWN                         ALICE COOPER

                       (1950'S)                                            (1960'S)                                          (1970'S)

All of a sudden I just thought about those "Shock" Rock Singers.  At times our boss has if that guy Arthur Brown's "high-pitched" voice influenced any later Hard Rock Singers?  Daisy told me how he's so amazing, and wears a special hat which has a fire burning on his head.

Our boss told Mr. Dave one time how he has a vinyl record of an early 1970's British band called ATOMIC ROOSTER.  Their keyboards player was in Arthur Brown's 1960's band, their Drummer later in EMERSON, LAKE and PALMER.   Blackbeard and Anne flew bye.

Daisy saw a Video of Arthur Brown's song about fire, where he had that container with fire on his head; his face painted to look scary.  It reminded her of Blackbeard the Pirate.  In combat, he lit and then hung those slow burning fuses from his hat, to make him look more ferocious.                                                      WHITE ZOMBIE                                                           MR. RICH

I wonder if "Shock" and "Horror" Rock are in the same "Category?"  Mr. Rich, who was in DRAGPIPE from New Jersey; knows about a N.Y.C. band called WHITE ZOMBIE, whose      Singer Rob Zombie now makes scary movies about Halloween Dais heard.  I smell Mesquite.

Grandma Trujillo was born on Halloween night.  Tomorrow in book three I'll write about how, in certain forms of Shock Rock; "Fascist" imagery is used to get attention; like with that  band MARILYN MANSON for an example.   Daisy and Millie watched some of their Videos.

For some reason, I just though of that guy Aldous Huxley's 1932 book "Brave New World" and how it was a "Dystopian" novel about the future.  I've mentioned how IRON MAIDEN have that one album called Brave New World.  I smell the baby Cholla cactus growing over there.

IRON MAIDEN

IRON MAIDEN is named after that one Medieval German torture devise, or "Eiseme Jungfrau;" even though Daisy says Mr. Ralph read it might've been a "Fictional" device.  They  would put you inside a "stand up" coffin, so when they closed spiked doors you get stabbed.

For some cultures, like the ancient Romans; "Blood Sport" violence as "entertainment" was normal.  Dais says our boss, his mom and Niece Samantha; went to the Getty Museum up on the hill.  They saw artwork by a 19th century French Artist named Jean Léon Gerôme.

One time on the phone our boss talked with his mom about Jean Léon Gerôme, and how he seemed to have been really interested in ancient Rome and the Middle East.  You not only can  tell by his great paintings I guess, but by his sculptures too.  One of the Ducks is quacking.

                                                                     JEAN LÉON GERÔME (1824-1904)

As they walked around the Getty museum Mr. Steve and his mom remembered going to the Colosseum in Rome back in 1985.  It's "in person," and "up close;" that you see how good a Painter that guy "Gerôme" really was his mom says.  I can smell Bonnie and Clyde's babies.

I notice how in this Encyclopedia it says Jean Léon Gerôme was born on May the 11th.  I've mentioned a few times in my books how May is the month with the most birthdays in Mr.      Steve's family.  And it's also the same month of our boss's parents Wedding Anniversary too.

Dais says we're lucky our boss doesn't want us to be mean and vicious because then we'd just have to go ahead and be that way.  She told me, in order to gamble and for entertainment;    people raise Dogs and Roosters like Heathcliff to fight each other.  Some even get killed too.

                                                                                           "THUMBS DOWN"

                    BY JEAN LÉON GERÔME

One of Gerôme's most famous paintings is called "Thumbs Down" or "Pollice Verso" in French.  I see it here in my Encyclopedia, the caption saying it shows a Gladiator "asking" the    crowd "whether to kill his defeated opponent."  A Crow is cawing faintly out in the desert.

A Gerôme painting not in not in that exhibition at the Getty Museum shows Blackbeard the Pirate being killed.  It's also in my Encyclopedia too.  If I could use Mr. Peabody's Way Back Time Machine I'd go see if it's true Blackbeard's "headless" body "swam" around the Ship.

Daisy and Millie saw a tv show about Blackbeard the Pirate which said it took a lot to kill him.  The British Sailors stabbed and shot him "numerous" times it says here.  His cut off head was hung from their Ship but "it's said" that his "corpse thrown overboard refused to die."

                                                            "CAPTURE OF THE PIRATE BLACKBEARD"

                                                                                                                                              BY JEAN LÉON GERÔME

I've mentioned how, since the late 1600's as "Privateers;" people like Blackbeard were told by Protestant England it was okay to steal things from Catholic Spain's Ships.  But, then in the early 18th century; the government "Changed it's Mind." Blackbeard and Anne flew bye.

So, "sanctioned" Privateers became "illegal" Pirates.  Daisy and I both wonder if it's true Blackbeard's tongue was hanging out of his mouth on his decapitated head?  The way it took so much to kill him kind of reminds me of how much it took to kill that Russian guy "Rasputin."

Daisy saw a movie called "Gladiator," which said a Gladiator's motto was; "Let me win or be brave in dying in the attempt."  That movie takes place during the time of a mean Roman Emperor named "Commodus."  It's about an army General "Maximus Decimus Meridus."

                                                                                                                 AC/DC

Daisy says that Australian band AC/DC have a song inspired by Roman Gladiators called "For Those About to Rock We Salute You!"  I guess, it's a "Takeoff" on what the audience said to Gladiators before their contests; "For those about to die we salute you!"  I smell Mesquite.

I want to see that movie Gladiator some day.  Daisy says, when he's a General; Maximus Decimus Meridus fights in Germany but his wife and son back live in the colony of Spain.  That movie takes place in 180 A.D.   A Train whistled faintly way out in the desert to the north.

Even though he fought so bravely for Rome, in the movie Gladiator General Maximus is betrayed by the Emperor Commodus; who makes him into a Slave.  What's worse Daisy says, is how Commodus has Maximus's wife and son killed back there in Spain.  Boy!  That's so bad!

                                                               GENERAL MAXIMUS DECIMUS MERIDUS

A picture from the movie Gladiator shows General Maximus "Reviewing the Troops" just before a big battle.  From what Daisy says, as a Slave; Maximus becomes a really good Gladiator in North Africa.  Like Spain, North Africa was a colony of Rome since conquering Carthage.

Dais told me General Maximus eventually got revenge on the Emperor by killing him, the end of the movie sad because he then dies too.  But she says, "at least" he got to go up to Heaven and be reunited with his wife and son forever and ever after.  A little Lizard is running bye.

One time, as he watered the big Mulberry tree over there; our told and Mr. Randy talked about the Roman daggers and swords he has.  Daisy says "if there's ever a big war or something Mr. Steve can fight the enemy off if they get too close to the house."  Heathcliff crowed.

                                                                      GLADIATOR

Mr. Steve has that "Gladius" sword, which has never been sharpened like that Halbred Spear he uses to kill Rats.  He lets people hold it so they can see how heavy it is.   The Soldiers who guard the Popes, those "Swiss Guards;" carry Halbred spears like the one we have.

Looking at the desert beyond the three Sheds for some reason suddenly makes me think of that man Aldous Huxley.  In his book Brave New World he describes a possible England of the future but, it's "doesn't sound that great" Mr. Steve's dad jokes.  A Crow is cawing faintly.

Dais says our boss and his father think Aldous Huxley was warning everyone about what could happen if a future government had too much power.  He and George Orwell knew about Pavlov's Dog experiments and "Theorized" how "Conditioning" could be used.  I smell Sage.

                                                                  ALDOUS HUXLEY

Aldous Huxley showed how conditioning people on the "Correct" way to think makes it easier for a government to control them without the usual violence.   They take care of you from "Cradle to Grave" as they say.  But then they also have the right to tell you how to think.

I guess, when he lived in Llano Aldous Huxley had a Ranch and kept animals because he and his wives liked Dogs.  Mr. Steve says "one of these days" he wants to drive up the mountain and see Aldous Huxley's old ranch.  As I've written before, Aldous Huxley's first wife died.

By 1932, the year Mr. Steve's father was born and Brave New World first came out; Aldous Huxley had seen Stalin's "Communist" Russia.  Mussolini's "Fascist" Italy had been there since the early 1920's and soon he would see Hitler's "Nazi's" in Germany.  Dawn's now barking.

                                                                                 GERMAN-AMERICAN "BUNDS"

Daisy told me our boss says most Americans think the United States could never become a Fascist nation.  But he thinks, if "circumstances" are right; it could.  If America were ever to go into a big economic depression "anything's possible" and "civil war" could happen he thinks.

During  the 1930's depression German-American groups called "Bunds" developed in the U.S.   They wore Nazi-type uniforms and held big "Rally's" at New York City's Madison Square Garden.  Hitler's private army wore "brown" shirts, some American Fascists wore "silver."

Franklin Roosevelt became President in 1932, and two years later I guess there were a few "Industrialists" who tried to do a "Coup" against him.  Daisy saw a tv show about it.  Because of the "collapsed" economy some thought Capitalism and "Liberal Democracy" was a failure.

GENERAL SMEDLEY BUTLER (1881-1940)

The tv show said in 1934 a Marine General named Smedley Butler was asked to lead a Fascist government, after replacing President Roosevelt in a "military coup;" but instead Dais said he "reported it to" Congress.  I like his colorized photo.  A Train whistled to my left.

Wow!  It says here, by 1934 General Butler had "seen combat all over the world,'" the "most decorated" Marine in history.  He was "awarded" sixteen medals, five for "Heroism," so was like that later guy Audie Murphy I guess.   No wonder Mr. Steve's dad admired him.

In the "Business Plot" the plan was for half a million "angry" ex-World War I Soldiers to "take over" Washington D.C. and "install" General Butler as Dictator.  But luckily, like George Washington; he "refused power."  The former Soldier's families were dying of starvation.

GENERAL ULYSSES S. GRANT                DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER

(1822-1885)                                                    (1890-1969)

From 1934 on I guess General Butler criticized what President Eisenhower later called the "Military Industrial Complex." Mr. Steve's dad read his book "War is a Racket."  Over the next two days I'll  find out if, in many things in the world; money controls a "Deep State."

I just thought of how, that guy General Grant was a critic of the Mexican War; which he had fought in.  Daisy told me the man on the tv show about General Butler said, in the 1930's; many people around the world "admired" Fascism.  Fannie and Freddie are flying bye.

Many think "Organized Religion" has been responsible for much, if not most; of all the violence in history.  And Mr. Steve says it has caused "a lot of damage." But human beings have never, ever "needed" religion as a reason to be very brutal and even "enjoy being violent."

                                      HITLER                                  STALIN                                 MAO

Hey God!  As You already know, Mr. Steve says Adolph Hitler in Germany, Joseph Stalin in Russia and Mao Zedong over in China killed "millions and millions" in the 1930's, 1940's and 1950's too.  All were Atheists who didn't believe in You.  So they felt no "Accountability."

Mr. Steve and his father think, besides attacking his then ally Stalin in 1941; the biggest "Blunder" Adolph Hitler made was "Declaring War" on the U.S. when he didn't have to.  After the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor we had only "declared war" on Japan.  Heathcliff crowed.

Joseph Stalin thought he and Hitler together could conquer the world.  If he had been on Germany's side they together might've won the Second World War.  But, instead; they fought the most "Brutal and Bloody" war in "all of human history" and millions of people were killed.

BENITO MUSSOLINI (1883-1945)                                    MARY BEARD                                                                                                             PHOTO BY CATARINA TURRONI AVIF

I've written about the ancient Roman "Fasces" symbol Mussolini adopted in the 1920's for his Italian "Black Shirts."  Daisy says in her tv show episodes that girl Mary Beard talked      about "influences" on ancient Rome.  They got the Fasces idea from "Etruscan" culture.

A "Fasces" bundle of wooden "rods wrapped around an axe;" stood for a Roman Judges "Authority" or power.  The rods in a Fasces  represented "beating" a person accused of a crime, the axe "cutting his or her head off;" all in the "Name of Justice."  Heathcliff just crowed.

Mr. Steve one time talked on the phone with his dad about how there was no such thing as a "Bill of Rights" in the ancient world.  The concept of "Cruel and Unusual" punishment, as in the "8th Amendment" of the U.S. Constitution; would "seem weird" to them.  I smell Sage.

                                                       VIKING SELLING A SLAVE

                                                                                               NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC PAINTING

The painting in this Encyclopedia shows a Viking "trying to sell" that girl to two men who seem interested in buying her.   Vikings, like Romans; didn't believe in "Civil Rights."  To them "might often made right," and they "kind of liked" violence anyway Mr. Steve thinks.

Andy's over there guarding the entrance to their burrow and I know Helen's down there taking care of their new Spring babies.  Hey God!  I wonder why Cats at times seem to play with a Mouse before killing it?  Wouldn't that be considered, in a way; kind of like torture?

Hey Lord!  As of course You already know; the Romans wanted prisoners to suffer when they were "Put to Death."  In fact, "cruelty was the whole point" Mr. Steve and his dad think.  To this day they say, at times "brutality" is still used to "send out a message" so to speak.

                                                                 "CRUCIFIXION"

Hey Lord!  Dais told me about that time when Mr. Ralph joked, unfortunately for You; the Romans "had no idea of cruel and unusual punishment."  Before they even killed You, they whipped You a lot I guess.  Dawn's barking over there, and now so is little Blinky too.

Ugh!  Dais and Millie saw a tv show that talked about this really, really gruesome torture Vikings used to do called the "Blood Eagle."  They did it on an Anglo-Saxon King and then used his corpse for target practice with arrows and spears.   Boy!  I hope I never get tortured.

Our boss's dad thinks, because in 2014 the U.S. is in the "wealthiest culture in history;"  many "assume peace, love and understanding is the norm."  But, often in history "war, hatred and intolerance is more common."  Being "Open-Minded" is easier when you have money.

                                                                                 ROMAN LEGION ON THE MOVE

Daisy and Millie saw this tv show that said, when those Roman Legions were marching around conquering people; they often had a guy carrying a pole with a Fasces bundle tied to the top.   Fannie and Freddie, talking to each other; are flying over Libby's Corral.  I smell Sage.

I guess, when a Fasces symbol also has a writing feather and rolled up document in front of it; that symbolizes Rome's "Judicial" power.  To the Romans, and later Mussolini's Italy; the Fasces was used to mean "Strength through Unity."  Mr. Steve has a miniature Fasces.

As I've said before, during World War II "Nazi" Germany, "Imperial" Japan and also "Fascist" Italy made an alliance; and were called "Axis" powers.  The agreement they signed in late 1940 was the "Tripartite Pact," or "Three Powers Pact."  Libby whinnied over there.

                                                          HOMER LEA (1876-1912)

I just thought of that little hunchback Homer Lea, who went to College at "Stanford;" and later wrote those two books about military history.   At Stanford he did a Research Project on the history of war, finding out "war is more common than peace."  I smell some Juniper.

Boy!  That guy Homer Lea had to be smart because his two books influenced people like Vladimir Lennon over there in Russia.  He died young but but did a lot of things, like going to China; before that.   Mr. Ivan down there in Sylmar knows all about his interesting life.

Daisy thinks, maybe because he was dropped as a baby; Homer Lea was a hunchback always in bad health.  He knew how, for the Roman's; the Fasces represented "Life and Death."  Thank You so much God for giving me this good project to work on for these three days.

                                                                "DESERT STORM"

                                                              ("HIGHWAY OF DEATH" / 1991)

Mr. Steve's father thinks there will "probably" never be a time of total "Peace on Earth" and "Good Will Towards Men," as violence seems "built into many humans." Someday I'll hear the WHO song "Won't Get Fooled Again."  It's about revolution not changing anything.

Since right after those two "Twin Towers" in New York City were blown up in 2001, U.S. troops have been in the Middle East.  Thirteen years later; American soldiers are still fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan.  I've mentioned the 1991 "Persian Gulf" war "Desert Storm" before.

Dais says one time a guy who fought in Desert Storm said when he got back people would ask, Where have you been?"  When he'd tell them "the war in Iraq" a common response would be "Oh yeh?  I didn't know we were in a war."  Blackbeard and Anne are now flying bye.

                                                                                                 FLOCK OF BIRDS

A group of Birds is flying bye.  Mr. Steve thinks too many people are "uninformed and ignorant" about things they should know, only caring about making money; or popular culture entertainment.  A girl once told our boss's mom "past history is just useless information."

Now I'll learn more about the "Spanish Civil War" of the late 1930's when, like so many other countries; Spain was in the Great Depression so was poor.  Daisy saw a tv show that said a lot of people, and probably Dogs too; died during that brutal three year war.  I smell Sage.

I've mentioned before how the Spanish Civil War began in 1936, ending three years later when World War II "erupted."  "Leftist's," including "Socialists;" fought "Right Wing" people who wanted a "King-like" leader.  "Both sides committed many atrocities" it says here.

                                                                 ADOLPH HITLER / FRANCISCO FRANCO

A picture shows Adolph Hitler walking next to Francisco Franco, the Fascist leader of the side that won the Spanish Civil War.  Mussolini's Italians, and Hitler's Germans both helped the Right; while Stalin's Russians "assisted" the Left.  Franco "ruled" Spain until the 1970's.

Daisy says our boss met an older Spanish lady.  She remembered Leftists coming into her town and bayonetting their Catholic Priests to death, and other times when Rightist's shot those they thought Communist.  Mr. Steve's father said in the Korean War there were atrocities.

I guess, a problem with the Left during the Spanish Civil War was "Factions" couldn't get along.  That guy George Orwell and his wife had to escape Spain because Leftists wanted to kill them.  When a war breaks out; you "can't be neutral" and must "pick a side" Dais says.

MANUEL BENITEZ PÉREZ / "EL CORDOBÉS

Dais says the book about that Bullfighter El Córdobes said his father was a "simple day laborer," who was "non-political."  But in 1936 during the Spanish civil War, he joined the Left;  only because his friends did.  When they lost, they were all "In big Trouble as they say.

El Cordobés father died in a prison, his mother then "worked herself to death" trying to take care of four children.  Like in all area's, Spain's history is sometimes one of "hardship and    struggle."  Samson and Delilah are flying over Libby's Corral and moving eastward.

Through "Trial and Error," Germany, Italy and the Soviet Union did a "Dress Rehearsal" for World War II in Spain; testing weapons.  Planes bombed cities, and the tv show talked about Germany's "Condor" Legion; which became famous.  Mr. Steve has a huge Condor feather.

"GUERNICA"        PABLO PICASSO (1881-1973)       WITH FAMILY

                         PAINTING BY PABLO PICASSO

I just thought about how, when the Germans bombed the Spanish city of "Guernica" in 1937; that guy Pablo Picasso got really mad.  It inspired him to do his now famous "Anti-War" painting.   During the 1930's "Picasso" and his family were was living in France I guess.

Mr. Steve's mom has studied Picasso's art, and likes how Guernica was done in a black, white and gray "Cubist" style; "intended to symbolize the horror of war's tragedies."  This lady told our boss one time how Guernica is a "Basque" city in northern Spain.  I smell Sage.

Francisco Franco, like Mussolini and Hitler; was a "Fascist Dictator" too.  But, because Spain "remained neutral" during the Second World War; his government "survived" until the 1970's.  Mr. Steve and his dad think he was smart to "keep Spain out of World War II."

SPANISH "SEPHARDIC" JEWS

Mr. Steve told Mr. Grant, who's Jewish; General Franco was a Fascist but saved a lot of Jewish people's lives during World War II.  And, he did it in spite of the fact that Spain has a very long and bloody history of "Virulent" Anti-Semitism.   Two of the Pigeons are flying bye.

In 71 A.D. the Romans crushed that big Jewish rebellion in Israel, so then "Enslaved" the survivors in one the those "Diasporas" I wrote about yesterday.  My Encyclopedia says the Jews who "fled" to Spain and Portugal are "Sephardic."  A Train whistled faintly to my left.

As I've said before, "Sephard" is the Hebrew name for the "Iberian Peninsula."   In Spain and Portugal some of the "Sephardim" did pretty good, and were there when the Moors invaded the Iberian Peninsula from Africa in the 8th century.  I can smell Bonnie and Clyde's babies.

MODERN SPAIN             "IBERIAN" PENINSULA        MUSLIM CONQUESTS

Hey God!  It says here how, when those Muslim Moors conquered southern Spain or the "Andalusia" area; they decided it was "in their best interest to use Jews" in commerce, medicine and statecraft.  Was that You who caused that to happen?  So at least they got to survive.

Daisy heard our boss talk with Mr. Grant, who's Jewish; about a 12th century Jewish man named Moshen ben Maimon, who was born in the city of Córdoba.  "Maimonides" was a Rabbi, a medical Doctor; and seems to have been a really smart person.  Moshen means "Moses."

A lady Mr. Steve knew visited "Córdoba" in Spain, and her son took pictures of a statue of that guy Maimonides; copies of which Mr. Steve still has.  It says here Maimonides was not only a Doctor but "also a Philosopher, Astronomer and Religious Scholar."  Robins are singing.

       MOSHEN BEN MAIMON (1135-1204 A.D.)

In 1985, when Mr. Steve and his Tour Group went to Israel they stayed in an old Roman town called "Tiberius;" on the west shore of the Sea of Galilee.  Later, their Bus drove past the tombs of Maimonides and his son.  That son was his only child to survive into adulthood.

Hey God!  I've mentioned before how for a long time the three "Monotheistic" religions, Jews, Christians and Muslims; got along and even cooperated in the city of Córdoba.  But things changed in 1148 A.D. when "Berbers" conquered southern Spain.  I smell some Mesquite.

Those North African Berbers were really strict "Orthodox" Muslims who told anyone not Muslim in Córdoba they either had to convert, leave Córdoba or die.  Maimonides family left, he becoming a "Court Physician" over in Egypt.  That was another one of the Jewish Diasporas.

                                 AL-NASIR SALAH AL-DIN YUSUF IBN AUUUB (1137-1193)

Wow!  My Encyclopedia says Maimonides became the personal Doctor for the "Sultan" of Egypt "Saladin."  Saladin's Muslim armies fought against the European Christians after the "First Christian Crusade."  Saladin, founding the "Ayyubid" dynasty; was a "Sunni" Kurd.

Maimonides, influenced by Aristotle; wrote about "pneumonia, hepatitis asthma and also  diabetes" too.  As it advised up on the wall of ancient Delphi; he also "urged moderation in all things."  Mr. Steve says Maimonides once wrote that he often "Longed for Solitude."

Hey Lord!  I guess Maimonides was like those ladies Mother Theresa and Dorothy Day in being very busy helping poor patients too.  Daisy told me our boss thinks it was amazing he had time to write about all the things he did.  Frida and Diego just went flying bye right now.

                                             CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS (1451-1506)

PAINTING BY SEBASTIANO DEL PIOMBO

Daisy told me our boss and Mr. Ralph once talked about how some think Christopher Columbus might've been "Jewish."  Others believe he was Portuguese or maybe "Catalan," he spoke in a Spanish "Castilian" dialect similar to that used in New Mexico.  I smell Sage.

It says here the "Golden Age" of Jews in Spain took place during what is now called the  "Islamic Renaissance."  Jews like Maimonides were Poets, Philosophers, Scientists and Doctors.  They "thrived" in Córdoba.  But it's too bad, in the 13th century; "that period ended."

King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella in 1492 succeeded "Once and for All" in pushing the Muslims out of Spain and back down into Northern Africa, so the seven century "Reconquista,"  or "Re-Conquest" was over.  New Mexico had a reconquista in 1693.  Heathcliff crowed.

"CONVINCING" THE MONARCHS        COLUMBUS         "ROUTE" OF FIRST VOYAGE

When the Berbers "dispersed" the Jews it was only in Córdoba.  But in 1492, when King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella kicked out the Muslims for good; they told all Spanish Jews they had to either convert to Catholicism or leave.  So then, another Jewish Diaspora occurred.

Mr. Steve says Jews came to the "New World" in the 16th century, to New Mexico in the 17th century.  Mr. Steve's father told him he saw Menorah's in Belén and Jarales, where he and his brothers and sisters grew up.  Mr. Steve thinks he might be part "Moor" or "Jew."

In 1492 King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella decided to give Columbus three Ships for his expedition.  When he sailed from the Harbor of "Palos," it was filled with Boats taking Jews who refused to convert out of the country.  Andy's over there guarding the burrow entrance.

THREE SHIPS               FIRST VOYAGE (1492)               LANDING

One time on the phone our boss and Mr. Dave talked about how a member of Columbus's crew on that first voyage was a Jew named Luis de Torres.  He was the "Interpreter" because he spoke many languages, so Daisy thinks he must've been really smart.  I agree with that.

Mr. Steve's dad thinks Luis de Torres might've just "pretended to be Catholic," so that his family could stay in Spain.  Jews in Spain were "Looked down Upon" in the 15th century, some even called them "Marranos;" which my Dictionary says means "Swine."  That's a Pig!

That guy Luis de Torres may've been the "first European to talk with a Native American" when the Spanish landed on that island Columbus named "Hispañola."  Mr. Ralph read he saw a Bird that to him looked like a Peacock so in Hebrew called it "Tuki."  It was a "Turkey."

COLUMBUS COMES ASHORE

("LA NAVIDAD" / "HISPANEOLA" / 1492)

Columbus set up a "Colony," "La Navidad or "The Nativity;" but two of his Ships sank so he had to leave men behind as he sailed back to Spain.  Mr. Ralph thinks Luis de Torres was    "most likely" killed by Indians who slaughtered all the guys left behind.  I smell Mesquite.

Mr. Ralph read Columbus's first voyage was in part "Financed" by Jews who, like Luis de Torres; were "Conversos" who stayed in Spain.  This Encyclopedia says, even before that first voyage; the Spanish Church had already created the "Inquisition."  Heathcliff crowed.

I guess, the Inquisition's main job was to make sure all the Catholics "practiced religion correctly;" if you didn't they might torture or even kill you.  Daisy saw this tv show about how in those days at times they burned you to death like that girl Joan of Arc.   I like Heathcliff.

                                               TOMAS DE TORQUEMADA (1420-1498)

I'm looking at the painting of Tomas de Torquemada, the Spanish Inquisition's "Grand Inquisitor."  According to this Spanish Dictionary, "Inquisicion Español" is how you would say    it in Spanish.   Boy!  I kind of like trying to figure out words in all of the other languages.

By the special haircut he's wearing in a painting I can tell that guy "Toruemada" was one of those "Franciscan" Priests.  Daisy heard Mr. Ralph say he has at times wondered if he was a    "zealot" Converso Jew?   All four of the Pigeons are now flying toward the northeast.

Torquemada was like some 20th century gangsters but, in those days all over the world "almost every group used violence" Mr. Ralph said.  Dais heard that one guy Albert Anastasia, who ran the Mafia's "Murder Inc.;" at times liked to "personally get involved."  Oh wow!

                                                                BENJAMIN "BUGSY" SIEGAL (1906-1946)

I've mentioned before how Italian gangsters, like Lucky Luciano; didn't mind working with people not from Sicily.  Besides that Jewish guy Meyer Lansky, his "Bookkeeper; he used Benjamin "Bugsy" Siegal to do some things like beat people up.  Dawn's barking over there.

Oh!  My Encyclopedia says, after World War II in 1945; Bugsy Siegal was one of the "co-founders" of Murder Inc.   He built the "Flamingo" Hotel, Casino on what is now the "Strip."  At the time, in 1946; it "didn't look anything like it does now" Mr. Randy said that time.

The Italian mob "financed" Bugsy Siegel's project but, when it we "overbudget;" had him killed.  Dais saw a tv show that said he was "disrespectful" to Lucky Luciano when asked about the money.  So, in effect; he kind of signed his own "Death Warrant" Mr. Steve thinks.

BUGSY SIEGEL / VIRGINIA HILL                                 BUGSY SIEGEL DEAD

Daisy says the tv show said the Flamingo Hotel was named after Bugsy Siegel's girlfriend Virginia Hill, who had long legs.  In 1947 at her house in Los Angeles, "surprisingly" our boss thinks; someone "snuck up" on him.  He "never saw it coming" when they shot him dead.

Bugsy Siegel was "Blown Away" through a window Dais told me.  The tv show said his left eyeball flew out of his head so, as that lady Sister Rita Joseph used to say, "Live by the sword, Die by the sword."  Blackbeard and Anne Bonny are now flying over Libby's Corral.

Yesterday I wrote about 1963, when President Kennedy was assassinated in Texas.  Boy!  It's too bad that guy Lee Harvy Oswald, the main "Suspect;" was himself killed before he could tell anyone what had happened.  That man who shot him was that Jewish guy Jack Ruby.

                                                              JACK RUBY (1911-1967)

As I wrote yesterday, Jack Ruby's real name was Jacob Rubenstein but, like many Jews then; he "Anglicized" it.  There was a lot of "Anti-Semitism" then.  Daisy heard, in the 1930's;    he "enjoyed brawling with American Nazis even when "bloodied."  Libby just whinnied.

When those German-American Bunds held rally's in New York City in the 1930's, Jews like Jack Ruby fought them "Hand to Hand" on the streets; outside Madison Square Garden."  I just looked up in time to see Fred, Ed and Ted flew bye.  Boy!  I feel good right now.

In book one I wrote about N.Y.C. sports stadiums, Madison Square Garden and Yankee Stadium; which were replaced by newer versions with the same names.  In 1968, when our boss    was thirteen; the new Madison Square Garden was built.  A little Lizard went running bye.

           OLD                "MADISON SQUARE GARDEN"           NEW

1968, when the new Madison Square Garden was finished; is the same year the Kansas City "Athletics" became the Oakland "A's."  I guess, in the 1930's some American Nazi "Storm Troopers" wore "brown" shirts like in Germany; others wore "silver."  I smell Penstemon.

Mr. Steve says American Nazis "had in common" with their "counterparts" in Germany the "willingness to be violent."  Adolph Hitler "Instinctively" sensed the appeal of violence in the history of German culture.  As a World War I Soldier he "got accustomed" to violence.

When Germany lost the First World War, they were "Blamed" for starting it.  For a few years the economy was bad, with much poverty, hardship and struggle.  Dais says some wonder    how such a "modern" country like Germany could have "Fallen Back into Barbarism?"

       "PARTY RALLY"                                            "BROWNSHIRT PARADE"

During the mid-1920's the German economy made a "Come Back" and was doing pretty good because of U.S. Bank loans.  But, after the American "Stock Market Crash" of 1929; many countries like Germany went into the Great Depression.  All those loans were "Called In."

In the early 1930's, when so many German people were really struggling a lot; the appeal of joining a group like the Brown Shirts got greater.  Mr. Steve says some people want, or need; to have the feeling of being a part of something bigger than themselves.  I smell Sage.

An older German lady told our boss "If your life is miserable joining the Nazis where you got food, beer and a good uniform; didn't seem so bad.  And, on top of that as a "bonus;" you at times "even got to fight a lot too" she said.  Nazis and Communists "battled in the streets."

        MR. RICK

Mr. Steve played sports, and worked for people like Mr. Rick and Steve Banks who died; so understands the good feeling of being part of a "Team."  But, as Daisy's noticed; it seems like the older he gets the less our boss likes the company of people.  Heathcliff just now crowed.

I guess Jack Ruby, who shot Lee Harvey Oswald; told his brother fighting made him "feel alive" and at the time he was covered in blood.   In 1963 Jack Ruby ran a Dallas "Strip Joint," being his own "Bouncer;" because he loved to hit people.  I wonder what a Strip Joint is?

Daisy told me how Benito Mussolini's "Blackshirts," in the 1920's and 1930's; used to beat up or "Bludgeon" other Italian people with "Blackjacks."  Daisy says blackjacks are metal bars in a flexible leather cover, on the end of a handle.  I guess our boss has a real blackjack.

                                                       ALBERT ANASTASIA KILLED

                                                              (N.Y.C. / OCTOBER 25, 1957)

I just thought of that guy Albert Anastasia again who, after World War II; was "Head" of that "Gambino" family.  But in 1957, eight days after Mr. Steve's brother Rock was born; he got killed.  At the time he was getting a shave in a Barber Shop and was totally surprised.

Daisy says Albert Anastasia was confused and shot a mirror.  The tv show said over the centuries Barbers, using the straight razor; have "slit the throat" of many men.  Our boss told Mr. Ivan one time how he "could never feel comfortable" letting someone else shave him.

An old saying goes, "Three can keep a secret if two are dead." Stalin joked, "No body, no problem," and Pirates said; "Dead men tell no tales."  When the Spanish Inquisition came to Mexico City in the16th century, "Córdoba" was a name they had on their list to investigate.

                                                          "CÓRDOVA"

Hey Lord!  Mr. Steve and his father think it's possible their family could have Jewish or black Moorish blood in them.  From the 16th century on it's likely Jews and Moors pretended to convert but then came to the New World to secretly practice their religions.  I smell Sage.

Mr. Steve's dad occasionally saw Jewish "Star's of David" and "Menorahs" when he was growing up in Jarales.  Hey Lord!  Daisy and I would like to be Jews so we could wear those little round hats I wrote about yesterday.  Dais says our boss has a few of them in the house.

Oh!  I  forgot to write a few things about the "Fasces" symbol.  But, instead of going back  I'll just write about it now instead.  Since the time of the Romans, I guess that logo's been used    for other things besides what Mussolini did with it in the 20th century.  A Duck's quacking.

"TEN CENT" DIME"

Daisy heard our boss tell his father on the phone how he has some old "Dimes" with the Fasces symbol on the "Tail's" side.  He also told him the the State of "Colorado's" seal, and the city of "Brooklyn's" logo; have Fasces shown in them too.  All four Pigeons are flying bye.

Mr. Steve and some members of his family visited the "Lincoln Memorial" in 2008 when they vacationed in Washington D.C.  Our boss pointed out to his family how the two armrests on Lincoln's marble chair have Fasces logos carved onto them.  A Train whistled to my left.

Over the years Mr. Steve has pointed out that the "Knights of Columbus" emblem has a Fasces symbol as part of it.  Most people didn't know what a Fasces represents, others had never even noticed it before.  Mr. Steve's father looks for Fasces on or near the U.S. Courthouses.

"KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS"                "LINCOLN MEMORIAL"                          U.S. COURT SEAL

Daisy says our boss told his dad how most people nowadays "don't look closely" at things and, "even if they do notice" a logo or something; they really "don't care about it anyway."  I've thought about having a Knights of Columbus type organization for Dogs.  Libby neighed.

I  just thought of how Grandma Trujillo, whether here or back there in New Mexico; just loved to play "Bingo" in any form.  As a kid Mr. Steve went with her to Belén's Bingo Hall, and has dreamt of it.  He worked at the San Fernando Knights of Columbus Hall on Bingo nights.

According to my Encyclopedia, the Knights of Columbus was created by Catholic Priests way back in the 1800's.  And it was mainly intended to help the numerous poor Irish immigrant widows who had lost husbands.  Until recently most people lived pretty short lives I guess.

                                                     "KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS"

Daisy says our boss and his dad are no longer members of the Knights of Columbus, and for Mr. Steve; one thing he didn't like was the formal "Rituals."  To him things like that seem a "bit out of date."  Mr. Steve's father's hat and uniform are in shiny box in our living room.

Mr. Steve told his dad he thinks "maybe in the 19th century, when Catholics were hated; secret rituals seemed necessary" for their own protection.  I'd wear a Knights of Columbus hat with the feathers on it.  That guy Napoléon Bonaparte wore those style of pointed hats.

Another reason why our boss left the Knights of Columbus is because, the older he gets; the more he prefers being by himself.  He told his mom, "ninety nine times out of a hundred, I'd rather be alone."  The older he gets the less he likes any "Group Think" Daisy believes.

"BRAVE NEW WORLD"               ALDOUS HUXLEY (1894-1963)

ARTWORK BY LESLIE HOLLAND

Aldous Huxley's book Brave New World showed how in the future drugs could be used to control  people and "condition proper thinking."  George Orwell thought, in "Pavlovian" terms; you get "Rewarded."  Brave New World came out in 1932, the year our boss's dad was born

Mr. Steve and his dad don't like when "Liberal" Politicians try to get people dependent on government so they can get their vote.  "To a certain extent you can control people if you control their purse strings" our boss's father thinks.  Andy's over there sniffing the air right now.

Dais told me, in the mid-1970's; our boss and his girlfriend Sandy went to the "Universal Amphitheater" to see a David Bowie concert called "Diamond Dogs."  Mr. Steve heard David Bowie originally intended it to be his version of George Orwell's 1984.  I smell Mesquite.

                                                                                          DESERT "SCORPION"

Aha!  I knew I was smelling one of those Scorpions who live around here but, I didn't even believe it because usually they never come out during the day.  Wait until Daisy hears this.  But it better be careful because a lot of things, like Cher the Cat; love the taste of Scorpion.

The Scorpion is standing perfectly still over there in the dirt.  Oh!  It just scurried over to the big boulders around the bottom of the Mulberry tree and ran between two of them.  Way up in the now beautifully blue midday sky there are two extending vapor trails growing slowly.

I mentioned in book one how that guy George Orwell, for the "Left" as a member of the "International Brigade;"  fought in the "Spanish Civil War."  But the Left began fighting among themselves so he and his wife had to escape from Spain before being killed.  A Train whistled.

WITH SON               GEORGE ORWELL         SPANISH CIVIL WAR

                                  (1940'S)                                   (1903-1950)                                (1936-1939)

A picture taken during the Spanish Civil War shows how much taller George Orwell was than everyone else.  He got shot in the neck and a tv show Dais saw said he was lucky the bullet    went "cleanly" right through his neck.  Oh!  But that's must've still hurt a lot I'll bet.

Mr. Steve and his dad both think George Orwell, at a certain "Point in Time;" probably came to realize that Stalin, who was helping the Left during the Spanish Civil War; was just as    bad as Hitler and Mussolini who were helping Franco and the Right.  I smell Mesquite.

Hey God!  Mr. Steve thinks, like in many wars; the Spanish Civil War saw a lot of those "Atrocities" I've written about.  Both sides slaughtered one another, just like the Catholics and    Protestants did back in the 16th and 17th centuries.  Two of the Pigeons are flying bye.

   "SUNNI" VERSUS "SHIA" MUSLIMS

A map shows, like Mr. Hussein down in Sylmar said; there are more "Sunni" Muslims than "Shia."  To this day I guess there are times when those groups fight but, like when "Iran"    fought "Iraq;" it's for "Political" reasons.  Mr. Ivan read a lot about that war Dais says.

I've mentioned a few times over the last two days how Mr. Steve thinks "it seems like," in the "Temporal" world of the five senses; "violence and hate have always been common."  In  "many cases religion is the cause of much of history's brutality" he says.  A Train whistled.

Mr. Ivan said "Human beings don't need religion to be violent," and "seem to want or need to hate an other."  Daisy thinks since the ancient days some wars were just one group who needed an excuse to steal good things from other groups.  Frida and Diego are flying bye.

                                            MICHEL DE NOSTRADAUMUS (1503-1566)

Dais says our boss's dad says "You don't have to be Nostradamus, or an Old Testament Prophet; to predict someone in the 21st century will exploit hatred and the love of violence on a bigger scale than in the 20th century.  Ah!  I smell Spring Sage.  That makes me feel good.

Mr. Steve thinks almost everything, for good and for bad; usually gets "Proportionately" "bigger in scale" with each passing century.  I wrote yesterday about that 18th century German Philosopher Friedrich Hegel's "Dialectic" system for predicting the future.  I love Sage!

I just thought about how revenge, or "Retribution;" is one of the most powerful forced in history.  "Revenge is Sweet" as that old saying goes.  And, a good example of that was during the American Civil War, in the State of "Missouri; when both sides did atrocities on each other.

                                                    JESSE JAMES (1847-1882) /  FRANK JAMES (1843-1915)

During the Civil War many "Missourians" supported the Rebel Confederacy but, not all so there was a lot of bloody violence.   My Encyclopedia says that guy Jesse James' family were "firmly" on the side of the South.  Fannie and Freddie, talking to each other; are flying bye.

I guess, Jesse James' older brother Frank rode with a group of "Bushwackers" during the Civil War; but Jesse was only sixteen so his parents wouldn't allow him to fight.  But then, Union Soldiers tortured his family.  So, after that Jesse James just wanted to kill them.

Mr. Bob, who grew up in "Antelope Valley" near "Littlerock" where Mr. Steve's brother Sam lives with his family; knew about Jesse James.  I wrote how Mr. Bob went to the same High School as Frank Zappa and Captain Beefheart.  But now he and his family live in Missouri.

U.S. AT THE TIME OF THE CIVIL WAR

I've mentioned before how during the Civil War four "Slave" States, Missouri, Kentucky, Delaware and Maryland; "stayed in the Union" and did not "Secede."  Frank and Jesse James, as "irregulars;" fought "fast moving hit and run ambush" war.  It was a "Guerilla" war.

My Encyclopedia says the "pro-Union" people in Missouri were called "Jayhawkers."  I guess, because of "all the bloodshed;" Civil War Missouri was sort of like what happened before the Civil War in 1850's "Bleeding Kansas."  The four Pigeons are flying to the southeast.

A tv show Daisy saw said Jesse James and his older brother Frank fought under William Quantrill and Bill Anderson.  Wow!  It says here "Bloody Bill" used to "scalp" Union Soldiers.  I kind of like watching Libby walking around slowly over there near the back of her Corral.

                                                                                    "BLOODY" BILL ANDERSON (1828-1864)

Daisy says, from his saddle that guy Bloody Bill hung all the scalps of men he killed; so you can tell he was mean.  Mr. Steve thinks "maybe" he liked violence and "revenge" was a good excuse for doing it?"  His sister was accidentally killed by some Union Soldiers I guess.

Hey God?  Why has revenge and retribution so often been used as a "Pretext" for groups of people to enjoy killing other people?   Our boss discussed that with a man who's Grandfather died in the Spanish Civil War.  He had fought for the Leftist "Abraham Lincoln Brigade."

Like all of the Left in the 1930's, the Abraham Lincoln Brigade fought General Franco's Right Wing conservative Nationalists.  The Abraham Lincoln Brigade were all Americans and I guess some of them were black.  Frida and Diego the Bluebirds are flying bye right now.

                                                           ERIC HOFFER (1898-1983)

Dais says that man's Grandfather had been what they call a "Longshoreman" before he went to Spain to fight Fascists.  She told me that means, like Grandpa Trujillo with Trains; he loaded and unloaded things from the Ships in a Harbor.  I smell the baby Cholla cactus.

Mr. Steve and his father read a book called "The True Believer" by Eric Hoffer.  I guess he wrote about Philosophy, and his "Regular" job was as a Longshoreman up in the "Bay Area" region of California.  Eric Hoffer's book described the "Psychology" of "Mass Movements."

Ah!  Hearing a Train whistle faintly over there to my left makes me think of how, from 1928 through 1975; Grandpa Trujillo was a Longshoreman for Trains and "never missed a day" of work.  Even later in life he feared losing his job.  Two Crows are fighting behind the Sheds.

                                                                                    "NAZIS ("NATIONAL SOCIALISTS")

Eric Hoffer wrote his book in 1951, so Mr. Steve knows he was very familiar with Nazism and Communism by then.  He saw Hitler so cleverly "Manipulate" his followers, many unhappy "Misfits;" by "instilling pride" in them.   And, they all wanted things to "Change" too.

There are two main types of mass movements, "Revolt" or "Reform."  Hitler tried to get power through revolution but, when that failed; ended up achieving power through reform.  In his book Eric Hoffer wrote about "Fanatics."  Ah!  I smell a Lizard somewhere nearby.

Over the last two days I've mentioned the late 18th century "French Revolution," where the poor rose up against King Louis XVI.  They even ended up cutting his and his Queen Marie Antoinette's heads off.  Aha!  A little brown Lizard is doing pushups over there in the dirt.

                                             MAXIMILIEN DE ROBESPIERRE (1758-1794)

During the French Revolution's "Reign of Terror" that guy Maximilien Robespierre cut off a lot of people's heads with the "Guillotine."  Mr. Steve thinks, like Adolph Hitler; he sensed on an "Instinctive" level that "Hate often Unifies."  Some of the Ducks are now quacking.

That guy "Robespierre," who had so many people's heads cut off; was later beheaded himself.  Eric Hoffer thought Robespierre knew "many people want to be part of a purposeful cause or movement."  Daisy says our boss has a little miniature Guillotine in his office.

Mr. Ivan read, when U.S. President in the 1950's; Dwight Eisenhower gave copies of the True Believer to people.  He one time said, "Leadership is the art of getting someone else to do something you want done because they want to do it."  Andy's over there sniffing the air.

W.W.II             DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER            WITH WIFE

     (1890-1969)

Mr. Steve was told President Eisenhower agreed with Eric Hoffer in thinking at times a fanatic will "Switch Sides" to become "even more fanatical."  Lord!  Eric Hoffer said "Saul" the Roman, who persecuted Your followers; is an example.  He "Evolved" into Your biggest fan.

I still have more to write about the 1930's "Spanish Civil War."  This Encyclopedia says, because the U.S. and other "Western" countries would not sell "Arms" to the Leftist "Spanish    Republic;" that guy Joseph Stalin in Russia decided to do it.  Fannie and Freddie flew bye.

Hitler's and Mussolini's militaries were able to test out new weapons in helping General Franco's Right Wing win the Spanish Civil War.  "Franco" is described here as being the "tough talking Generalisimo."  He wasn't afraid of either Mussolini or Hitler from what Dais heard.

     GENERAL FRANCISCO FRANCO

General Franco, "El Caudillo;" I guess was able to "outwit" his Left Wing enemies in winning the war.  This Spanish Dictionary says Caudillo means "Leader" or "Chief."  Lately I    notice how Daisy's been calling our boss "Chief" and I'm starting to think of him as that too.

Daisy says Mr. Steve, and his father; think it's too bad the Spanish people had to be the "Guinea Pigs" for Hitler and Mussolini's new weapons.  As I've said, the Spanish Civil War was  a "Dress Rehearsal" for World War II.  Daisy told me how Guinea Pigs aren't really Pigs.

From 1936 through 1939 the Germans and Italians, through "Trial and Error;" tested   their new weapons.  That Fighter Plane "Me-109," the 88 Millemeter cannon; and the "Stuka"   Dive Bomber were all used for the very first time back then.   A Train just whistled faintly.                                                         "ME-109"                         88 MM CANON                        "STUKA"

Dais says our boss thinks that guy General Franco must've been "strong-willed" because he was able to keep Spain "Neutral" during the Second World War.  Even though Hitler tried to get him to join he and Mussolini, he never did.  I can smell the Twin Joshua trees out there.

It says here, even though Franco kept Spain neutral in World War II; he let the Germans set up Submarine bases on the Spanish coast.  He also provided the Axis Powers with minerals to make some weapons.  Samson and Delilah are winging their way toward the northeast.

To "placate" Hitler during the Second World War, Franco sent over 45,000 "Volunteer" Spanish Soldiers to fight alongside the Germans against the Soviet Union.  Wow!  Franco ended up being Spain's Dictator for thirty five years.  Heathcliff crowed, making me feel so good.

CITY OF ROME SACKED (5TH CENTURY A.D.)

          ARTWORK BY NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC

Daisy says we're so lucky we don't live in a time of "Anarchy," like when that original Roman Empire in Italy was attacked a few times in the 5th century B.C. for example.  But, as that old saying goes, "Only change lasts Forever,"  Samson and Delilah are flying bye.

Mr. Steve thinks, because the "cycles of history" are going faster now; changes that used to take years happen in months.  Both Roman Empires fell, so did the Spanish Empire; and in 1991 even the Soviet Union "came apart" he says.  Maybe someday the U.S. will fall too?

We're fortunate to live in the "richest country in history" Mr. Steve thinks.  We're what's called "Middle Class" but, in the world millions still live in poverty, violence and hatred.  Many Americans think we're "Invulnerable" but "we're not really" our boss's dad tells people.

                                            "UNITED STATES" OF AMERICA (2014)

Mr. Steve's father thinks it's bad that the American government is now "Trillions" of dollars in "Debt."  Because the "Dollar" is what they call the world's "Reserve Currency," the American "Federal Reserve" can just "Print" money "Out of thin Air."  I smell Mesquite.

Dais says our boss and his dad think you can often trick people by using fancy words to describe something.  So, in today's American culture; printing money out of thin air is just called "Quantitative Easing."   A flock of Birds is going bye way up there in the midday blue sky.

I've said before how Mr. Steve thinks war, hate and intolerance are much more common in history than peace, love and understanding.  But Americans today can't imagine that because, since World War II, we've lived in an "Affluent" society.  We have the "Luxury of Tolerance."

                                                                GEORGE ORWELL

Mr. Steve's father hopes that American life never "reverts back" to the "more common" historical pattern of violence.  If we ever go into an economic depression like in the 1930's people may fight over "Resources" like food.  I'll find out about that movie "Mad Max" later today.

"England seems to produce good satirists" Mr. Phillip said one time, like Jonathon Swift, Aldous Huxley and George Orwell.  In 1984 George Orwell wrote of "New" or "Double Speak" where "War is Peace," or "Freedom is Slavery;" and "Ignorance is Strength."  I smell Sage.

Daisy heard our boss's father thinks "overall" the U.S. "Three part System" of "Checks and Balances" government, though "not perfect;" is "better than everything else."  All of those "Founding Fathers" had in mind a "Limited" form of government.  Ducks are quacking.

THOMAS JEFFERSON (1743-1826)

PAINTING BY REMBRANDT PEALE

That guy Thomas Jefferson was the third U.S. President and he said, "When the people fear the government, there is tyranny.  When the government fears the people there is liberty." Speedy Gonzalez just ran bye right in front of the Sheds.  He left behind some floating dust.

Another Thomas Jefferson quote is, "I predict a future happiness for all Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them."  Speedy's scent floated over here.  That makes me happy to be alive.

Daisy says our boss told Mr. Ralph, in the materials he and his parents read to be Tour Guides at the San Fernando Mission; was another Thomas Jefferson belief, "The oldest history of the United States is written in Spanish."  Dawn's barking.  And now so is little Blinky.

 ABIGAIL (1784-1818) / JOHN ADAMS (1735-1826)

I just thought of that guy John Adams, and his wife named Abigail.  John Adams was the second American President, Thomas Jefferson the third.  I guess, in 1776; John Adams helped to write the "Declaration of Independence" with Thomas Jefferson.  I like how Blinky smells.

Daisy heard for a long time Thomas Jefferson and John Adams "didn't like each other."  But they "Made Up."  And by total coincidence, both died on the exact same day; which also just would happen to be the 50th Anniversary of the Declaration of  Independence.  Wow!

Boy!  That's so amazing how John Adams and Thomas Jefferson died on July the 4th of 1826, Thomas Jefferson's last words being "Is it the fourth?," while John Adams said Thomas Jefferson still lives."  Hey God!  Was it you who caused them to both die together like that?

                                                 "CHECK AND BALENCE" SYSTEM

I've mentioned how in the late 18th century those Founding Fathers created a "Secular Republic" based on a "Separation of Church and State."  It was an "Experiment" but that does not mean they were Atheists, as "Deists" do believe in a "Creator."  Heathcliff crowed.

The diagram shows how the U.S. Government has three "Branches."  The "Legislative" "makes" the laws, the "Executive" then "carries out" the laws; while the "Judicial" branch has  to "interpret" the laws.  In 1826 Adams and Jefferson were the last Founding Fathers to die.

Oh!  Yesterday I totally missed on my book one outline to write about James Madison, so I'll just do it right now.  My Encyclopedia calls him the "Father of the Constitution," and I guess he was the fourth President; in office at the time of the "War of 1812."  I smell Arborvitae.                                                          ALEXANDER HAMILTON         JAMES MADISON                          JOHN JAY                                             (1755-1804)                                 (1751-1836)                                (1745-1829)

PAINTING BY JOHN TRUMBULL                                                                                             PAINTINGS BY GILBERT STUART

Oh!  According to my Encyclopedia that guy James Madison was born on March 16th which, in looking at my list of dates; I see is also Mr. Steve's sister Susan's birthday too.  It says    here he was "pivotal in drafting" the Constitution, especially the Bill of Rights.  I smell Sage.

In the living room Dais and Millie saw a tv show about the "Federalist Papers."  They were written by James Madison, John Jay and that other guy Alexander Hamilton; and tried to  convince people the new type of "Democratic" government was a good thing.  I feel great!

Dais heard Thomas Jefferson "Died in Debt" so his things, including the Slaves; were all "Auctioned Off" to pay "Creditors."  I've said before how Mr. Steve thinks even basically decent people can have "contradictory" parts to their characters.  All four of the Pigeons flew bye.

                                                "CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION"

                                                              (PHILADELPHIA / 1787)

PAINTING BY HOWARD CHANDLER CHRISTY

Thomas Jefferson wrote, "All men are created equal" but he, like George Washington;  owned Slaves.  And, like most white people then; he thought most black people were "Innately" inferior.   A tv show Daisy saw said he had kids with one of his "light-skinned" girl Slaves.

A man on the tv show said, "for such an eloquent writer Thomas Jefferson didn't speak a lot;" John Adams joking he "never said more that three words at one time."  Another President like that was named Calvin Coolidge, whose nickname was "Silent Cal."  Heathcliff crowed.

My Encyclopedia says that guy Calvin Coolidge was "withdrawn and reserved."  Daisy says our boss's father thinks "there's no way someone like that could be elected President" now in 2014.  Ah!  The scent of the Twin Joshua trees just floated into both of my two nostrils.

                                      PRESIDENT COOLIDGE /  WALTER JOHNSON

Dais says the tv show said one time President Coolidge met that famous Baseball Pitcher Walter Johnson, and both not being very "Talkative;" I guess they "barely said a word" to each other.  Calvin Coolidge "possessed a dry sense of humor" it says here.  Dawn's barking.

My Encyclopedia says, even as "dour and uncommunicative" as Calvin Coolidge was, his wife was the opposite, "quick-witted" and "demonstrative."  Not liking "small talk," President Coolidge did it to "humor his wife."  A Freight Train just whistled faintly over to my left.

The tv show said, one time at a big party; this lady told President Coolidge she'd "bet" her husband she could get him to say more than two words.  He then shook her hand and said, "You lose."  Mr. Steve's father also read about that story and he and Mr. Ivan laughed about it.

              CALVIN COOLIDGE (1872-1933) FAMILY

Oh wow!  Calvin Coolidge was born on the 4th of July, so he "can have twice as big" of a celebration Daisy jokes; being able todo do two things instead of only one.  Grandma Trujillo, who was born on "Halloween;" used to joke about that too.  Boy!  I love to celebrate!

I wonder if Mr. Steve knows this about President Coolidge?  My Encyclopedia says he was "influenced" by that 18th century German Philosopher Friedrich Hegel, who I mentioned in my first book.  So, I'll bet that "Hegelian Dialectic" formula was one of the things he read.

As I said yesterday, Friedrich Hegel lived at the end of the 18th century; and beginning of the 19th century.  His "Dialectic Formula" has been used by others, like that guy Karl Marx for example; to explain and predict the "evolution of change in life."  Leo and Cleo flew bye.

FRIEDRICH HEGEL (1770-1831)                     "HEGELIAN DIALECTIC"                          PAINTING BY JACOB SCHLESINGER

As I learned in book one, Hegel's system tries to explain the "never ending cycle" and "patterns" of how things "evolve."  Mr. Steve thinks "most" things in life are "dual in nature,"  Hegel would describe it as "Thesis" and "Antithesis."  Charles Darwin knew about Hegel.

One time our boss and his mom talked on the phone about that lady from San Fernando named Marge Britt.  She and her husband "John," a World War II combat veteran; were from the State of "Rhode Island" near where Mr. Steve's sister and her sons live.  I smell Sage.

"Mrs. Britt," as Mr. Steve called her; died a few years ago and was a "decent woman" as Mr. Steve's father describes her.  For years she and Mr. Steve's dad were involved with the L.A.  "Democratic" party, and our boss and his parents remember her laugh.  Libby whinnied.

                                            ROBERT KENNEDY / CESAR CHAVEZ

("DELANO" / MARCH 11, 1968)

Dais says Marge Britt, and our boss's dad; met that guy Cesar Chavez who I mentioned before.  The caption below a 1968 picture says it shows Robert Kennedy visiting with him after one of his "hunger strikes."  Mr. Steve was thirteen in1968, his brother Rock only eleven.

Like President Coolidge's wife Mrs. Britt was talkative and "Gregarious," her husband was like President Coolidge.  When Mr. Ivan asked how they "got together," she joked "I just talked him into it."  Mr. Steve says he had a "nice dream" about swimming in their pool.

All of a sudden I just thought of Thomas Jefferson again.  I've said before how Mr. Steve thinks, by "today's standards;" almost all white people from the past would be considered what is now called a "Racist."  Theodora just ran bye, quickly lifted off; and is now flying away.

                                      ABRAHAM LINCOLN (1809-1865) FAMILY

I just thought of how Thomas Jefferson, and later Abraham Lincoln; wanted to send all of the black people back to Africa.  Daisy says our boss still has a book from College with some of Lincoln's letters.  There are now two crisscrossed vapor trails way up there in the sky.

One of Lincoln's letters I guess mentioned "Amalgamation," which was the "mixing" of black and white people; or "Races."  He said it was "disgusting" to think of a black and white couple getting married and having babies.  Lincoln enjoyed those "Minstrel" Shows.

Mr. Steve thinks Jefferson and Lincoln didn't like Slavery but thought, if "Freed;" the innately superior whites couldn't live alongside the innately inferior blacks without violence.  In the 1850's Lincoln voted for a law which made it illegal for blacks and whites to marry.

THE NEGRO PROBLEM

One time our boss and Mr. Dave talked about a 1990's L.A. band called THE NEGRO PROBLEM.  They took their name from the title of a famous book I guess.  Daisy heard Lincoln "changed his mind" about sending blacks to Africa "after seeing their bravery" as Soldiers.

Daisy says our boss thinks President Lincoln thought blacks "proved themselves" in the Civil War.  But, except in their "Basic Humanity;" he never thought they were equal to the white people and even said so.  Samson and Delilah are flying toward the northeast right now.

Mr. Steve says President Lincoln fought to keep America "United."  Yet, ironically earlier said; "Any people, being inclined and having the power, have the right to rise up, and shake off the existing government, and form a new one that suits them better."  Heathcliff crowed.

                                                                                                 AMERICAN CIVIL WAR (1861-1865)

PAINTING BY THURE DE THULSTRUP

Mr. Steve thinks it ironic how, not only did Lincoln say people have the right to "shake off the existing government;" he called it the "most valuable and sacred right, a right which we hope and believe is liberating the world."  Boy!  I'm so happy now it's finally Springtime.

As a registered "Independent," in some things "Conservative" and in others things more "Progressive; our boss prefers smaller government.  Thomas Jefferson said, "That government is best which governs least, because it's people who discipline themselves."  I smell Sage.

Some wanted George Washington, like General Butler in 1934; to be "King" but he didn't want to because it would make him a "Hypocrite" who says one thing but then does the opposite. In Spanish it's called "Dos Caras" or "Two Faces."  Mr. Julio uses that term sometimes.

MR. STEVE'S MOM

I remember that morning last Summer when Mr. Randy said his mom dislikes "double standards," or people who's life is one of;  "Do as I say not as I do."  Dais says some Politicians,   on both sides; often do this.  They just use their powerful position to "enrich themselves."

To make all the original thirteen States feel more comfortable about joining the United States, the "Framers" put the "Bill of Rights" into the Constitution.  The "Tenth Amendment" was put in; which leaves a lot of power with each individual State.  A Train whistled faintly.

Because the "Republic" the Founding Fathers created at the end of the 18th century was an "Experiment in Democracy," where "The People" had the political power; they thought the "First" Amendment was important.  Andy's looking at me.  He just picked up my scent.

  BENJAMIN FRANKLIN (1706-1790)

PAINTING BY DAVID MARTIN

I wrote yesterday how, after the Constitutional Convention, that lady asked Benjamin Franklin what type of government he and all of the Founding Fathers had created.  He said, "A Republic, if you can keep it."  No government had ever been put in the hands of the people.

Because the U.S. would be governed by it's "Citizens,"  the Founding Fathers thought the "First" Amendment necessary for an "Informed Electorate."  Part of that Amendment is so you have the right to "Free Speech," and it also "guarantees" a "Free Press."  Libby neighed.

This one Encyclopedia says the Tenth Amendment "reserves" for the States any power not "specifically" given to the Federal government.  Maybe that's so the Federal government doesn't get too powerful and then "coerce" the States.  Frida and Diego are flying bye right now.

 PRESIDENT LINCOLN (1863)       Mr. RANDY

Our boss told Mr. Randy there are similarities in the 5th century A.D. fall of the original Rome in Italy with the U.S. in 2014.  President Lincoln said; "America will never be destroyed from the outside.  If we falter and lose our freedoms it will be because we destroyed ourselves."

Mr. Steve thinks many people "rely" on those "Smart" cell phones.  Some are tricked by people using "Semantics;" or "replacing one less attractive word with another."  So, as I've said before; "Gambling" has now become "Gaming."  Daffy and Daisy are quacking over there.

At Auto Dealerships the Salesmen refer to a customer's "Trade In" as being "Used," but if they sell you a used Car it's "Pre-Owned."  And Stock Market "Speculating" isn't gambling.  It sounds sort of like that "New Speak" George Orwell wrote about in his 1940's book "1984."

  DAISY CÓRDOVA

I wonder what Dais is doing?  I just thought of that man Pavlov and how Daisy showed me to lick my lips when signaling our boss to give us food.  Usually he uses food to condition us to do things but Dais jokes that we can do reverse conditioning on him when we're hungry.

Mr. Steve and his father think, in a society like ours which "prioritizes" money; the easiest way to control people is to try to control what they call their "Purse Strings."  If you can do that then it's a lot easier to get people to do what you want.  Heathcliff just crowed right now.

So, the more "dependent" people become on government the easier it is to get them to vote for you.  In the 19th century New York City Politicians paid poor people for their votes.  As long as you don't take away people's "Benefits," or "Entitlements;"  you're alright with them.

"MISSION BAY"                  SAN DIEGO                  "SEA WORLD"

Mr. Steve and his mom talked about "Sea World" in San Diego, which uses that Russian man Pavlov's "Conditioning" or training techniques.  I wrote how San Diego is where that first Spanish colony and Mission was established by Father Serra in 1769.  I can smell Mesquite.

San Diego's "Balboa Park," which our boss has been to; is named for that Conquistador Vasco Núñez de Balboa.  In 1513 he was the first "known" European to see the "Pacific" Ocean,  crossing the "Isthmus of Panama" from the "Gulf of Mexico."  A Train whistled faintly.

This Encyclopedia says Balboa "helped establish" the first colony on the "mainland" of the Americas.  That was in the area he had crossed before 1513, now called "Panama." All four of the Pigeons are now flying over Libby's Corral, moving in unison toward the northeast.

VASCO NUÑEZ DE BALBOA (1475-1519)                              "PERROS DE GUERRA"

Dais saw a tv show about Panama which said in 1513 Balboa's men took "vicious" Dogs with them, those mean Dogs "meant to terrorize" Indians.  Balboa's first settlement didn't even survive I guess.  The people either starved, or were killed by "hostile" Indians Daisy says.

Hey Blessed Mother!  It says here, after that first settlement failed; the Spanish started a new, more permanent town in a safer location of Panama where the Indians were friendlier.  And that second town was dedicated to You.  That guy Balboa eventually got his head cut off.

I guess Balboa Park began in 1915, at the time of the "Panama-California Exposition;" a "World's Fair" meant to "commemorate" the recently completed "Panama Canal."  Dais says    our boss walked on "Cabrillo Bridge," named for that other Explorer.   Heathcliff crowed.                                              FISH AQUARIUM                                                "BALA" SHARK

I just thought of Sea World in San Diego, which makes me think of how Mr. Steve used to have "Fish Tanks." Besides the work it takes to maintain an "Aquarium," another reason he    sold them was because of the 1994 "Northridge" earthquake.  Frida and Diego are flying bye.

Mr. Steve told his brother Sam, in 1994 a one hundred gallon Fish tank almost fell over in the living room in Sylmar.  It "swayed" and would've been a "big mess."  Their sister Susan's Condominium in "Reseda" was destroyed from what Dais heard she and our boss talk about.

The "Epicenter" of that 1994 earthquake was near "Northridge," so "was really felt" in Reseda.  I've said a few times already in these first two books how, in 1971; the epicenter was in Sylmar.  A little brownish gray Sparrow just went running bye holding a twig in its mouth.

     "SEA WORLD"

I remember when our boss and Mr. Randy talked about Sea World, and using food to train Animals.  Boy!  They have to make really, really huge salt water pools to have Dolphins and Whales in them.  We really like how Mr. Steve sometimes uses food to teach us what to do.

Someday I want to see that one tv show Daisy likes, about a man from Mexico named Mr. Cesar; whose nickname is the "Dog Whisperer."  His job is to teach us Dogs how to do things, so "we could learn a lot from him" she thinks.  All four of the Pigeons are flying to the east.

Daisy thinks I'd really like Mr. Cesar, because he's nice when showing us Dogs what to do.  Our boss told his mom it was "amusing to see" how Mr. Cesar makes the same "chtt" sound he also makes with us too.   We both know that sound means to stop doing what we're doing.

CESAR MILLAN                                     MR. RALPH / SON RORY

Like with Mr. Steve I guess, when Mr. Cesar says "chtt! chtt!; that might mean to stay still or be quiet.  Our boss told Mr. Ralph, who likes Dogs; he "picked up" the chtt! chtt! sound from Sister Rita Joseph, who "did it when someone was acting up."  Andy's looking at me.

Someday I want to see the painting our boss's mom did of an American Indian wearing a full feather "Head Dress." Daisy says it's hanging behind our boss's drums, and was Mr. Dave's favorite when he visited our house before moving to New Mexico.  A Train whistled faintly.

Our boss and Mr. Dave have talked about Native "Pow Wow's," where people dance and sing.  Mr. Steve and his family have been to a few of them, one time in "Taos" where Mr. Dave and Miss Julianne now live.  Daisy thinks Pow Wow's sound like an "Indian Worlds Fair."

"POW WOW"

I would love to dress up like and Indian Dog to dance and sing at a Pow Wow.  Our boss and Mr. Dave have discussed that Painter Georgia O' Keeffe, who grew up in "Wisconsin" like Mr. Mark; but later lived in New Mexico.  Boy!  Pow Wow's have really good food I'll bet.

Wow!  My Encyclopedia calls Miss Georgia the "Mother of American Modernism," and I guess in 1918 or year World War I ended; visited New Mexico with a sister.  As I wrote in book one, like our boss's mom; she liked the "radiant" sunlight.  The early afternoon sky is blue.

Mr. Steve's mom thinks Georgia O' Keeffe's New Mexico paintings "captured a feeling of everlasting life."  A few years ago a man told Mr. Steve's father Aldous Huxley and his wife one time visited that lady Miss Georgia in New Mexico.  Benjamin the Cow Bird just ran bye.

WITH HUSBAND              GEORGIA O"KEEFFE            IN NEW MEXICO

                                                                (1887-1986)                           PAINTING BY TONY VACCARO

Mr. Steve and his mom talked about Georgia O'Keeffe's husband Alfred Stieglitz.  He was a good Photographer, who recognized his wife's great talent when she was young; so then "promoted" and "facilitated" her career in New York City.  Some Sparrows are singing.

I guess, Mr. Dave likes when Miss Georgia painted in "loud" or bright colors, but Mr. Steve's mom and sister Susan prefer her images with "softer pastel tones;" to give a "spacious" type of feeling.  They also like her paintings that "didn't seem to have a middle distance."

Georgia O' Keeffe's painting were often either "really close up" or "very far away" our boss's mom said.  Some had "Insects-eye view" of flowers and skulls, or a "Birds-eye view."

TAOS CHURCH                                    MISS JULIANNE / MR. DAVE

Daisy told me, like Georgia O' Keeffe; Mr. Dave and Miss Julianne visited "Taos" and liked it so much they stayed.  Mr. Dave likes the black and white photographs that guy Ansel Adams took in Taos.  Fannie and Freddie, talking to each other; are flying toward the east.

Mr. Steve's mom and sister Susan one time walked around a Museum dedicated to Miss Georgia in Taos.  Mark Ritter once visited her "Ghost Ranch," located in "Abiquiú" Mr. Dave said; in an area called "Piedra Lumbre" or "Fire Stone."  I love this Spanish Dictionary.

Oh wow!  Georgia O'Keeffe said what Daisy tells me too, "My first memory is of light; the brightness of light; light all around."  Daisy says one time she was having this dream about being born when her good Angel Ramona showed up.  But, she also smelled Eddie too.

    EARLY AFTERNOON SKY

A flock of Birds is going bye.  I've mentioned before how Mr. Steve's mom loves Birds and did some paintings of them.  She also did a good painting of the old Church in Taos from what Dais heard.  There are some thin wispy clouds up there in the early afternoon sky.

Like Miss Georgia, our boss's mom liked working on big canvas's.  I guess, from what Daisy noticed; Georgia O' Keeffe at times used "flowers and Cow skulls" to symbolize "life and    death."  I can smell Bonnie and Clyde's babies sleeping up there in their Spring nest.

Whether "helping Girl Scouts make Crafts" or "doing things around their house," Mr. Steve says his mom was like that lady Georgia O'Keeffe; "thorough."  Her view is, "If it's worth doing then it's worth doing right."  She doesn't believe in any "half-measures" Dais says.

1918 "SPANISH FLU" PANDEMIC                               "BLACK DEATH"                                                    (1918-1920)                                                               (1347-1351)

Oh!  In 1918 right after World War I, my Encyclopedia says Georgia O'Keefe "almost died" in that "Spanish Flu pandemic; which killed over fifty million people.  She was only four but that pandemic "made an impression" on Grandma Trujillo Mr. Steve says.  I smell Sage.

Mr. Steve did that Research Project on the "Black Death," where people were buried alive accidentally because so many bodies needed to be "disposed of quickly."  Grandma Trujillo feared being buried alive, and so did George Washington Daisy heard.  Heathcliff crowed.

I just thought of how Miss Georgia and Mr. Steve's Niece Samantha were both born on November the 15th.  Mr. Dave heard, the older she got the less Georgia O'Keeffe liked being around people.  At times friends visited her, like that Photographer Ansel Adams I guess.

                                      YOSEMITE PARK                                     ANSEL ADAMS (1902-1984)

One time our boss and his brother Rock talked about Ansel Adams.  This Encyclopedia says he was from Northern California, or the city of "San Francisco;" and is famous for some of his photos of "nature."  As a young boy he saw San Francisco burn after an earthquake.

I guess, Ansel Adams was good at making black and white pictures by "adapting to" or "manipulating" light; whether when taking them or later in the Dark Room.  Boy! The early afternoon air is so clear again today.  Hearing Sparrows singing is making me feel good.

Mr. Steve's mom once met a lady from Northern California who met Mr. Ansel, and says he had a "crooked" nose.  He broke it during that huge 1906 "San Francisco" earthquake and just left it that way.  Our boss's father broke his nose while Boxing during the Korean War.

1971 "SYLMAR"               EARTHQUAKES            1989 "LOMA PRIETA"

I just thought of how Mr. Steve's family survived that big 1971 "Sylmar" earthquake, and in 1994 his sister Susan's condominium was destroyed by the "Northridge" earthquake.  In  1989 the "Loma Prieta" earthquake happened.  It was during the Baseball "World Series."

Daisy heard our boss and his brother Rock talk about how that big 1989 earthquake  happened before a World Series game between Mr. Steve's favorite Baseball team the Oakland    "A's;" and the San Francisco "Giants."  Samson and Delilah are flying toward the north.

That 1989 earthquake happened on October the 17th, which I've mentioned a few times in these first two books is also our boss's brother Rock's birthday too.  Mr. Steve did some art for a lady from Northern California and she told him about "Sequoia" trees.  I smell Juniper.

DIMENSIONS OF "SEQUOIA" ("REDWOOD") TREE

ARTWORK BY RON DIETRICH                                                    PHOTO BY JORDAN SIEMENS

Wow!  A picture shows this man walking in between two of those Sequoia trees, and they are as big as Daisy told me; a diagram proving it.   The caption says Sequoia trees grow on the west side of those "Sierra Nevada" mountains I've mentioned before.  Andy's looking at me.

It says here what Dais heard too, how two of the "oldest and biggest" Sequoia trees are about two thousand years old.  They're also called "Redwood" trees and named for General's Grant and his good friend General Sherman, and are two hundred and seventy five feet tall.

One time Mr. Steve and his mom talked about those giant Sequoia trees, with her saying she "wished" she could have taken her Girl Scout troops up there to see them.  Hey Lord!  With some being two thousand years old, that means they might've been alive when You were too.

   FALLEN SEQUOIA TREE TUNNEL

Wow!   A picture in my Encyclopedia shows the giant Sequoia tree that fell down, which Daisy told me about.  I guess, because of its huge size; they just decided to cut a tunnel out of it.    Boy!  I'll bet only the most modern of saws could even do such an amazing thing like that.

One time our boss and his brother Rock talked about how that guy Ansel Adams had a "Zone" system to figure out the "correct exposure" in order to "adjust the contrast" on the final print.  All four of the Pigeons are now flying over Libby's Corral and moving to the east.

In the Darkroom "Burning" and "Dodging" techniques are used to "improve contrast" in "black and white" photographs by "manipulating" the "exposure time" needed to get a good print.   Burning is when you darken a section of a print.  Frida and Diego are flying bye.

"INTERNMENT" OF JAPANESE AMERICANS (1942)

I wrote yesterday how Ansel Adams took pictures of those World War II "Internment" camps the Japanese-Americans were kept in.   Mr. Steve and their family Doctor Dr. Sakaguchi, who was in "Manzanar" camp as a small boy, talked about Mr. Ansel.  Heathcliff crowed.

Mr. Steve and his brother Rock talked about working in a Dark Room, and using those Burning and Dodging techniques.  "Burning" a black and white photograph means to first make a copy.  Then, using a piece of cardboard with a hole in the middle; you make "additions."

To improve an already made photographic "Print," in the creation process; at times you allow light from the "Printer" to go through only the hole in the piece of cardboard I guess.  You only allow light to fall on, and darken; certain areas. Heathcliff's Hens sound happy over there.

"BURNING AND "DODGING"

Daisy heard our boss and his brother Rock talk about how "Dodging" is the opposite of burning.  Instead of blocking the Printer's light from hitting most of an already created print, you use a "Spatula" type tool to block only certain small areas.  The rest then gets darker.

One time Mr. Steve had to take pictures of a group where the dark-skinned Boxer was in  all white, while two light-skinned white guys were wearing dark suits.  In the Dark Room later he Burned in the Boxers white trunks, robe and shoes.  I smell Bonnie and Clyde's babies.

I guess, that man Ansel Adams tried to  "Visualize" in his mind what he might later do in the Dark Room.  Toward the end of her life, when living over in New Mexico; that lady Georgia O'Keeffe didn't really enjoy as much being around people.  But Ansel Adams visited her.

GEORGIA O'KEEFFE

Mr. Steve's mom met a lady in College who had met Miss Georgia a few times, using the word "reticent" to describe her.  "Taciturn" is another word used for her, which means "Not liking to talk;" or "disinclined to speak."  Ah!  The early afternoon air is so clear right now.

The older our boss gets the more he understands how Georgia O'Keeffe felt because he now often prefers to be alone too.  "More often than not" he told his parents and Mr. Ivan that morning when he watered the Mulberry tree, "I would rather be by myself."  I smell Sage.

It says here Miss Georgia said, "The only way to live in Taos and Santa Fe is to strictly mind your own business and relatively keep the human being as about the size of a pin point."   She preferred New Mexico's "wonderful emptiness" more than people.  A Train whistled.

EARLY AFTERNOON SKY

I glanced up and see how there are some nice puffy clouds up in the sky.  Looking to my left at the far end of the Patio I can see my collection of things to chew on, which makes me look  forward to Sunday morning; when I chew on that new green rubber ball.  I can't wait!

That new green ball will be my reward for finishing these three long books.  Dais told me our boss, and his Niece Samantha; talked about how Mr. Steve's mom used the term "delayed        satisfaction."  She doesn't think what they call "Instant Gratification" is a good thing.

Sometimes in my dreams my bad Angel Lilith tries to convince me to do something bad but, thank goodness I have you to then come in to scare her away Stanley.  Boy!  I'm so glad God assigned you to me.  Seeing those puffy clouds up there is making me feel so good right now.

                                                       LILITH                                                      STANLEY

Hey Stanley!  Dais says her good Angel Ramona has also been protecting her lately too.  My Encyclopedia says, in the Old Testament's "Book of Genesis;" the original Lilith was that guy Adam's "first wife."  Hey God!  I guess You thought a man needed a good girl partner.

Daisy heard Adam's Lilith didn't like being being bossed around, so ran away; and when three Angels failed to convince her to come back she said no.  So God, You just went ahead and    made "Eve" as a replacement girl for Adam.  Lilith's symbol is one of those night Owls.

It says here "lila" is Hebrew for "night," and one of Lilith's other names is "Night Hag." During "Medieval" times she was said to sneak in at night and kill children.  I'll bet that's why the Native Indians here in America invented those "Dream Catchers" I've written about.

                                    RAMONA                                                   EDDIE

                                                                                                                      ARWORK BY DEREK RIGGS

Dais says, the first time she ever saw her bad Angel Eddie on the front of that one IRON MAIDEN album cover; she "almost had a heart attack."  She also recalls first feeling and seeing her good Angel Ramona on that tv show.  Theodora went running bye in front of the Sheds.

Mr. Rich heard, before Eddie was IRON MAIDEN'S "Mascot" he represented a "Punk" band over there in England.  I guess IRON MAIDEN'S bass player does not like that because he hates Punk music.  Hearing some Sparrows out in the desert singing makes me feel good.

For some reason I just thought of ancient Greece.  Daisy told me how our boss has these "Biography" cassette tapes about the history of Philosophy.  I've mentioned before how that guy Plato studied under Socrates, and his Student was Aristotle.  Andy's scent floated in to me.

                                              SOCRATES / PLATO / ARISTOTLE

This Encyclopedia says Plato "laid the foundations" for Western Philosophy.  Aristotle, who tutored Alexander the Great; is called the "first scientist in history."  If I could borrow Mr.  Peabody's "Way Back" time machine I would love to go back and sit in their classrooms.

Oh!  This is a good time to learn about that other ancient Greek guy named "Diogenes," who I mentioned yesterday.  I forgot to say a few things about him in book one so will just do it now instead.  Fannie and Freddie, talking to each other; are now flying toward the east.

A tv show Daisy saw called Diogenes a "Cynic" who influenced later "Stoic" thinkers.  It says here he was born in a Greek "colony" in "Asia Minor," now "Turkey."  As I said yesterday, he didn't believe in "material possessions" and said to live a "simple life;" like a Socialist.

                                                               DIOGENES (412-323 B.C.)

        Diogenes wanted to be homeless!

ed later Greek  Roman "Stoic" philosophers.   often had Dogs with him as  walked around Athens.  sounds  like Diogenes  a satirist like  Swift  Huxley.

sometimes Diogenes would eat  pass out food when sat in  audience at Plato's lectures.   Plato mad.   One time Alexander  when  a kid,  thrilled to meet Diogenes.  asked  if  could do anything for him.

Diogenes said  "Yes, move out of the way because you're blocking my sunlight."  Alexander  said; "If I weren't Alexander I would wish to be Diogenes."  But then Diogenes said; "If I weren't Diogenes I would still wish to be Diogenes."

Diogenes criticize  people Athens.  seems like a misanthrope would walk around daytime holding  lantern.  told people carried because looking for a good man.  But  said never found one

Diogenes told officials  just throw  body in  field when  died.   more food for  wild animals.  Boy, I'm glad I'm going to be buried next to Blackie, Lucy and Millie

didn't intend  write so much about philosophers

the economy.   bad.  Many  have  harder time "making ends meet" even if  have  job  might not pay enough.  "dire straits"  means  life  going badly.

boss likes some   songs by   DIRE STRAITS.  guitar player really good

Bernard  worked  DIRE STRAITS told  boss  DIRE STRAITS guitar player who became so famous had  brother lso good yet neverwell known.

was supposed to write about Phelan yesterday  But  didn't  So Daisy said  add it  today So I ll do  now. Phelan  named after him.

Phelan was Mayor SF   But  mainly  Banker.   later    "Senator" in D.C.

Minister  kind of like Priest But Brontë's father  Protestant Church of England  was Irish  like  Swift.

boss read Charlotte Brontë's book "Jane Eyre"   said obvious  she led  sad life.   describes sorrow  clearly.   died at thirty eight  like  mom

First Charlotte's two older sisters died.   brother died  thirty one.  then right  two younger sisters Emily  Anne  died.

Charlotte Brontë  sad life.    couldn't marry  men wanted.  And when  finally did at  older age  and was happy, she died

definition  reincarnation  "rebirth of the soul in another body."

Since  young   boss fascinated by  First  War.  thinks  was  "aha" moment when  dawned on him what  dream might beSince       thenread about War I; especially  "Red Baron."

    MANFRED VON RICHTOFEN (1892-1918)

Because of those dreams  boss studied air combat  First  War.  knows about  "Fighter Pilot" Manfred Von Richtofen.  flew red Plane  from Nnoble" family; so  called   Red Baron.

"Der Rote Baron" means Red Baron.  Baron was best fighter "Ace" First  War.  eighty "Kills" probably more.   younger brother  Pilot too.

Baron's brother Lothar. more aggressive than  brother; who was  "Tactical" pilot  more accurate "shot."  Lothar shot down forty French  British

German Air Force  World War I   "Deutsche Luftstreitkrafte"

when World War I started  Baron  Cavalry  fought Russians    French  British in  west.   trench warfare made cavalry obsolete.

Baron  liked Dogs.  Many  both sides  World War I adopted Dogs  lived with them in  trenches.   suffered  same conditions

at first Baron  not  good pilot.   crashed  first attempt

Baron was,  shot down  1918   since then  "Controversy"  who  killed Canadian pilot  or  Australian machine gunner

April  1918  Baron  flying red "Fokker" DR. I "Triplane" near  Somme River; where J.R.R Tolkein fought   Unlike most  Planes  First War DR. I had three wings

Baron   chased by British Plane   shot through  chest; either by  Plane or from ground.   soldier using    "Vickers" shot at him  mistake  flying  too close to ground.

Either way,  Baron  able land    last thing  said "kaputt;" slang for "finished."  In German Dictionary could also mean "broken"  "ruined."

one reason Mr. Steve likes  Peanuts   Snoopy Dog fighting   Baron.  Dog house able to turn into  Plane  fly But  Red Baron always wins.   Patton   believed reincarnation

           Patton   "West Point."

Patton's Grandfatherdied fighting for South  Civil War.   family  rich  PasadenaJackie Robinson

1942 Patton  sent to  Africa against  "Afrika Korps."   inmovie  told someone, as a Carthaginian soldier  "Another Life" fought Rome    Punic wars.

Patton  "Old Blood and Guts."   at  beginning of  movie  made  speech

Patton  nice to  Bulldog  mean  to  soldiers   hit a soldier  with  "Riding Crop."  not brave enough  "Malingering."

looked up malingering Daisy I would never want Mr. Steve to think we fake  illness  to get out of duty to guard  would feel terrible if  boss disappointed

next big topic  to write about  "D-Day" invasion Normandy  June1944.

Until June 1941 Germany attacked Russia Hitler  Stalin  allies.    At that point US had not come into  war yet  Roosevelt  helping England.

after  Japan attacked  December 1941 Pearl  we entered war on England's side.  So all of the US "industrial might" switched to "War Footing."

like  American Civil War  two "Theaters"  World War II  US   two  "Fronts."

MacArthur Mr. Steve thinks  was  important person in   20th    "Island hopping."

"Tide Turned"   Using Africa as base, took Sicily .  Mussolini overthrown

1943  "Turning Point" year   Germans fighting Italy  "Eastern Front"   In  Pacific MacArthur pressuring  Jap

by June  1944  Allies ready  try  "Amphibious" invasion Hitler's "Fortress" Europe.   "Atlantic Wall"   cement "Bunkers"  giant canons

"D" in D-Day stands for  day of  invasion  "H" represents  hour.   in World War II  were a few D-Day's but   1944  most famous.

met Polish man father landed  "Sword" beach  wounded men from    conquered countries took part about  William      Conqueror.   Viking from Normandy 1066 A.D.

Starting  from England  morning June  6  Allied  forces crossed  Channel  landed   France.   Steve's  father made Amphibious landing.

Germans  World War I  World War II used biggest canons   had to be "mounted"  railroad cars.

I wonder why  invasion called D-Day?  It doesn't say anything in  Encyclopedia.  Daisy jokes maybe "Death Day" Doom days"

Not only  big canons also  Barbed Wire anti-Tank "Obstructions"

Mg-42 "Maschinengewehr 42"  "Machine Gun 42."   "belt-fed"  "fastest firing"   able "deliver""greater volume of fire."

"Enigma" code.    able to trick Hitler  "High Command"

One way  Allies fooled Hitler "Dummy" army near  "Pas-de-Calais;"  narrowest part

Germans thought  Patton  best Allied "Field Commander."

Allies make  Germans think Patton would lead  invasion    fake TanksPlanes     so light  wind would make  turn over  roll away.

Hitler  convinced any landing not  Pas-de Calais "diversionary feint"    "jab"

By time  Germans realized  Normandy   too late.  took  days to send  Panzer Divisions to reinforce    gave Allies time establish  "Beachhead."

World War II  Patton fought well  Europe second half of 1944; especially " Bulge"writing about that battle in third book.   Emily's father   Third Army.

mid-42  Patton took part   invasion   Africa.

many  who join military  poor.  Most patriotic like  father but also "could use  money"   Patton  just patriotic.  family  rich.    good Horse rider.

Mussolini invaded  Libya  Ethiopia  1930.s  When  war broke out  39  British had to protect "Suez"

1941  Germans sent  Rommel  help  Italians    now considered  one of  best Generals  World War II.  "audacious" "daring."

arriving   Africa  Rommel had  Afrika attack.  use Tanks  hit from one direction  swinging other Tanks around "Flanks"  cut behind

British fled eastward  into Egypt  Rommel took Libya.  By 42 when Patton arrived British had been fighting  Germans  Italians  over a year.   .

Robert E. Lee  good "Tactical Field Commander" like  Rommel.  beat five  Generals

Rommel used Tanks beat  English Generals  he Robert E. Lee  good at seeing  overall Strategy  would be good Chess players.

WORLD WAR I                     ROMMEL (1891-1944)                            WORLD WAR II

When  Rommel arrived     Axis soldiers "discouraged."    turned  morale around  came to trust respect him.    led from front so admired   were  loyal to him likelee  jckson.

in movie in 1942 when Patton took over  Americans had been beaten  by Rommel "Kasserine Pass."

after   Kasserine Pass Rommel  "recalled"   So  Patton never got to "go against him"

From late 1942 when  brought back  Africa, until  D-Day  Rommel oversaw  "Fortifying"  French coast  after left   Patton beat Germans  Italians

Rommel.   "Field Marshall."  must be higher than  General

Rommel  "maneuver, surprise, boldness  speed."  Like Robert E. Lee  "audacious."

Tolkein, C.S. Lewis Hemingway Patton Rommel fought   World War I.

years between  wars degaulle patton romme realized how important fast-moving "Armour" would be in  "next war."

before sent North Africa  late 1940 Rommel used tanks  in  Poland France.  But  was in North Africa  he would go down in history as great General.

     were times in  Africa when  Rommel didn't have enough men, equipment  fuel.  Both sides endured  Flies, Scorpions  Snakes called Vipers.  And  hot;

Rommel adapted adjusted in  face of difficult circumstances  "set him apart." use of  88 milemeter   one way "made up" for disadvantages.

German 88  one of  "most feared"

German 88 originally vertical "Anti Aircraft" or "Flak" gun.  But men like Rommel adapted  for horizontal "Anti-Tank"    "deadly accurate" from twelve hundred yards.

Rommel  smart.  knew "make do" with what had  "got  maximum out of  minimum."

Samantha shares a birthday  O'Keefe Rommel  Patton  born 11th.  Samantha  smart like Rommel.   C.S. Lewis born  November  29

Samantha has stayed with our boss  knows a lot about music and has "i-pod."

Unlike other Germans  Rommel  decent     lucky prisoner who "fell into his hands"  didn't mistreat

Rommel "grudgingly" called "Desert Fox"     Had he taken  Suez  war    would have cut off  from India.

same can be said about  war ending differently if  Germans had conquered England  or beaten  Soviet  luckily they didn't

Mark Ritter joked  we might  be speaking German if Rommel had taken Egypt.  Dais says it's hard enough to understand English andSpanish.

                  MONTGOMERY (1887-1976)   PATTON (1885-1945)

George S. Patton arrived  North Africa 42.   Montgomery had stopped Rommel "El Alemain"

Montgomery  Patton's rival.  both  "egotistical"  "vain."   did not like  other    Churchill said   Montgomery; "In defeat, he was unbeatable, in victory unbearable."

Rommel "improvised" Africa   worked for a while but, in end,  lack of  "resources" "manpower" doomed  "Afrika

All of a sudden, for some reason; I just thought about the Middle East wars which have taken place over the last thirty years.  First, for almost a decade; "Iraq" under Saddam Hussein  fought "Ayatollah" Khomeini's "Iran."  All four of the Pigeons are flying toward the east.

Daisy and Millie saw a tv show that said about a million soldiers were killed in the war between Iran and Iraq.  Ayatollah Khomeini had come into power in 1979 and Saddam Hussein    thought he could steal Iran's oil.  But, I guess it didn't work; and he went into "Debt."

My Encyclopedia says, in 1991; Saddam Hussein attacked the small country of "Kuwait." So, the U.S. under the first President Bush declared war on Iraq; and ended leading a "coalition" of countries in kicking him back out.  The scent of the Twin Joshua tree's just came in.

NORMAN SCHWARZKOPF JR. (1934-20012)

In 1991's "Persian Gulf" war the General who led the war against Iraq was a guy named Norman Schwarzkopf.  He was a soldier, in the 1960's; during the Vietnam War.  Like so many famous American military leaders; he went to that school "West Point."   I smell Sage.

Daisy told me  the tv show on Saddam Hussein said General Schwarzkopf used "Shock and Awe" tactics to defeat Iraq back in 1991.  And that's what it says here in this Encyclopedia too.  Up in the high sky right now there are two long but now fuzzy crisscrossed vapors trails.

Saddam Hussein was warned by the first President Bush to leave Kuwait "or else," and when he didn't do it General Schwarzkopf was given the order to go ahead and attack the Iraqi forces.  I love the scent of Sage.  Smelling it now makes me suddenly think of last Spring.

BOMBING OF "BAGHDAD," IRAQ  (JANUARY, 1991)

It says here how, before "engaging" Iraqi forces in a "ground offensive; the American Air Force "bombed and destroyed" almost all of Saddam Hussein's internal "command and control" system.  Daisy says the tv show said he then had to rely on "Couriers" on Motorcycles.

A picture from 1991 shows Iraqi "Anti Aircraft" guns trying to shoot down the American Bombers.  But, because of superior modern technology like "Stealth" and "Smart" weaponry; it was "No Match" as they say.  Oh!  A Motorcycle just went bye on Primavera Road.

The Iraqi Air Force didn't even try to fight back against the U.S. Planes because it would have been like the 1944 World War II "Turkey Shoot" at the "Battle of Leyte Gulf."  In 1991 it would've been "No Contest" for them to fight back.  Speedy Gonzalez just now ran bye.

"IRAN / IRAQ" WAR (1980-1988)                       "PERSIAN GULF" WAR (1991)

I just love maps!  One shows the "battle zone" where Iran and Iraq fought their war, and another uses red arrows to point out where General Schwarzkopf's forces went in 1991.  Up there in the now high blue sky a small flock of Birds is moving toward the southeast.

Daisy says on the tv show it said, after General Schwarzkopf had "softened them up" in bombing everything; he ordered his armies to attack.  Like the Allies did to the Germans back in World War II, he tricked Saddam Hussein.  Dawn and Blinky are barking over there.

I guess, Saddam Hussein and his Generals thought the coalition would attack him either from the south; or from the east and the Persian Gulf's waters.  But, instead of doing that; they "executed" what my Encyclopedia calls a "left hook."  The red arrows show it on my map.

"M1 ABRAMS" TANK                                                  "DESERT STORM" (1991)

A picture shows an American "Abrams" Tank like the ones used in 1991's "Desert Storm" war.  And, in another one; you can see the damage they could do to the Iraqi Tanks and Trucks. I guess American Tanks and Planes were way better than what Saddam Hussein had then.

Daisy says the tv show on Saddam Hussein said General Schwarzkopf, because he went to West Point; knew about how the Allies had fooled the Germans those times in the Second World War.  And he also studied Blitzkrieg.  Frida and Diego flew over Libby's Corral.

Once the coalition forces had beaten them, the surviving Iraqi soldiers tried to escape out of Kuwait and make it back north into their country.  But, "Along the Way" until they got there; they were totally slaughtered by "Strafing" American Jets.  A Crow just cawed faintly.

"HIGHWAY OF DEATH" (1991)

Oh wow!  Two pictures show what the caption calls a "highway of death," where those American Planes destroyed the "fleeing" Iraqi "columns."  Ooh!  I guess, in 1991; it was like "Shooting Fish in a Barrel" as "Sitting Ducks."  That would be so bad!

I guess General Schwarzkopf  knew how part of Blitzkrieg is "Psychological" in trying to destroy an enemy's "Will to Fight."   You have to "Overwhelm and Paralyze" an opponent like the way Boxer Mike Tyson did in the late 1980's.  I smell Sage.

Dais told me the tv show talked about a Plane called the "Warthog."  It was used to kill a lot of Iraqi's on that "Highway of Death," and my Encyclopedia says it was later called the "Monster" by "surviving" Iraqi soldiers.  Dawn's barking over there.

  "A-10A WARTHOG"

ARTWORK BY "TANK BUSTER"

Daisy told me the tv show also talked about how Warthog Jets are like current versions of those German "Stuka" Dive Bombers in World War II.  They could kill you from far away or close up too I guess.  The Twin Joshua trees scent just floated in.

According to Dais, what makes the Warthog Planes even more scary is when the nose is painted with teeth like those "Flying Tiger" Planes from the Second World.  A Train just whistled faintly.  Hearing that right now reminds me of living homeless.

My Encyclopedia describes the "A-10A Warthog" as an "attack aircraft" designed for "assaulting ground targets."  And, they're also really good as "close air support for ground operations."  I see a new long white vapor trail way up there in the sky.

WARTHOG

Daisy saw another tv show about real Warthogs, who I guess are one of two types of wild Pig.  Warthogs live in Africa, are fast runners, and have big tusks for stabbing you or fighting.  They also seem kind of mean and are good fighters Dais says.

I guess Warthogs and "Boars" are re different.  Wow!  This picture of a Warthog shows its sharp tusks, and the caption says sometimes in males those big tusks can grow to be "up to" twenty five inches long.  Dais says males fight over girl Warthogs.

In the tv show a  pack of those Hyenas try to kill a Warthog, but it backs down into a hole and faces outward; the way Andy does in defending their burrow too.  That way the Hyenas can't surround and bite the Warthog to death.  Heathcliff crowed.

   "THE LION KING"

Yesterday I mentioned that cartoon movie Daisy told me about called "The Lion King."  It's the movie that has the good singing song about the sleeping Lion.  She says in that movie a big Lion named "Simba" becomes King after his own father is killed.

According to Dais, one of the Lion King's friends is a Warthog named "Pumbaa."  He doesn't seem very smart I guess but is really brave and will charge right into a lot of different situations.  Our boss Mr. Steve joked, "He's good to have in a fight."

One time on the phone Mr. Steve and his mom talked about The Lion King.  He told her whoever wrote the story was obviously influenced by the Old Testament and that guy William Shakespeare too.  Usually Mr. Steve doesn't like those "Musicals."

RICHARD JORDAN GATLING (1818-1903)                      "M61 VULCAN"

Wow! My Encyclopedia has a picture showing a  man holding a big bullet fired from the "nose cannons" on those Warthog Planes.  The caption says how the cannons are "Gatling" type weapons.  I just glanced up and noticed Andy's over there guarding their burrow.

This is interesting how it says here the first "machine" gun idea was thought of by a man named Richard Jordon Gatling.  In the 19th century he was an American inventor from North Carolina.  I really like the hat he's wearing in the photo of him with his "Gatling Gun."

I guess, even though that guy Richard Jordon Gatling's "concept" of a "hand-cranked" and "multi-barreled rotating" weapon is generally obsolete; his idea is still used in some things.  They can also be used in Helicopters too Daisy told me.  Andy just smelled me  over here.

W.W. I                 "MACHINE" GUNS                  W.W. II

It says here Richard Jordon Gatling's invention was the first "successful" machine gun.  It was the "forerunner" of the modern "rotary cannon;" like those "mounted" on the front of the    Warthog Planes.  I can smell the new baby Cholla cactus growing over there in the dirt.

I guess that man Richard Jordon Gatling also invented other things  too.  One was "screw propeller" and another a "motor-driven plow."  Speedy Gonzalez just zoomed right through the thinner left vertical slot on the side of the gate, and quickly disappeared into the back desert.

One time Daisy heard our boss talking on the phone with his father about that guy General Schwarzkopf.  Mr. Steve told him, after he retired from the military General Schwarzkopf and his wife lived in "Tampa," Florida.  Mr. Steve has been there.

boss has Von  book  term  "fog of war"   in  book. Vom Krieg now considered one of  best "handbooks" military strategy.

Vom Krieg  about war  also  studying "political aspects" of modern warfare.   now  "required reading" at  Military Academies.   politicians like Hitler  Stalin studied

in book  Clausewitz used"Dialectic."   two types  methods; one  by Socrates  classrooms to  find  truth;  second   predict  future.

Socrates Dialectic "questions and answers""search for truth."     answers  "prompt" new questions  answers in process  can go "endlessly."   college teachers  used Law school

Clausewitz used more modern Dialectic "method;" developed Hegel

in  late 18th early 19th   Hegel  teacher  philosopher  like Socrates.    saw "contradiction" even in truth.  His Dialectic "method""formula"  used to explain "reality"

Hegel's second form  Dialectic  called  "Hegelian Dialectic" method  Clausewitz  used to "formulate"  own ideas

Hegel's Dialectic system hard to understand.   one definition  "Tension between conflicting but interacting ideas."

Hegel used  Dialectic as  "logical system of reasoning to explain progress."   three parts; "Thesis,"  "Antithesis"  "Synthesis."

Hegel believed everything dual  so impossible for Thesis not to have  Antithesis.  And in first phaseThesis Antithesis "meld"  result  "Synthesis."  "blend"  "merge"

in Hegel's system  Synthesis  became  new Thesis  had to haveAntithesis.  Hegel believed pattern repeated over   over  will continue into  future.  boss sees formula  part of  cycle  life, death  rebirth.
