A sixty-one year old Father de Lasuen initially intended the San Fernando Mission be a stop off point between the already existing San Gabriel and San Buenaventura missions. However, it was the accident of location that turned out to be the San Fernando Mission's primary asset. Situated on the highway leading to the growing Pueblo (town) of Los Angeles, it soon became a popular location for travelers on El Camino Real the "King's Highway." The number of overnight guests at the mission, increased steadily during the early l9th Century.
