WINE CELLAR STEPS
When the San Fernando Mission was in its heyday, there were acres of vineyards. Wine was used for religious ceremonies as well as more practical everyday uses. The mission would become famous for its brandy and claret-type wine.
The original mission grapevines came from Spain, via the long-established Jesuit missions in Baja (Lower) California. By 1834, the San Fernando mission had 32,000 grapevines.
