Patron saint of the San Fernando Mission, Saint Ferdinand III, was King of Spain in the l3th century. The San Fernando Mission is the only mission out of 2l to be named after a Spanish King. The original statue of the saint was brought in by ship from Spain when the mission was first established. At present, it is on the main alter of the chapel there.
